Foreign Lands by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/foreign-lands-version-2-by-robert-louis-stevenson/
Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer. A celebrity in his lifetime, Stevenson's critical reputation has fluctuated since his death, though today his works are held in general acclaim. In 2018 he was ranked, just behind Charles Dickens, as the 26th-most-translated author in the world. (Summary by Wikipedia)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
Foreign Lands by Robert Louis Stevenson, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
Up into the cherry tree
Who should climb but little me?
I held the trunk with both my hands
And looked abroad on foreign lands.

I saw the next door garden lie,
Adorned with flowers, before my eye,
And many pleasant places more
That I had never seen before.

I saw the dimpling river pass
And be the sky's blue looking-glass;
The dusty roads go up and down
With people tramping into town.

If I could find a higher tree
Farther and farther I should see,
To where the grown-up river slips
Into the sea among the ships.

To where the roads on either hand
Lead onward into fairy land,
Where all the children dine at five,
And all the playthings come alive.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Hi David,
Just one little glitch...
Last line of second stanza you began with 'Than' instead of 'That.'

Did you mean not to say 'version 2' in the title?

Other than that, it's great!

Best!

Whoops! Just realized that 'version 2' was removed after I
recorded mine. Do I need to remove that?
