Sounds good! You don't actually need to sign up in advance, as long as you know that what you are going to read is in the Public Domain. We enter the readings in the Magic Window as they come in. You can always be assured of a place in the Short Nonfiction Collection, because when one volume fills up, we start another. Since this volume just started, there's lots of room. Selecting only one of the chapters, I guess, loses the charm of the work so I want to do it completely. Is it ok? If so, should I include it in a single file or break them chapter-wise? Well, let me start from scratch on this query... First of all, there is no rule at LibriVox or at the LibriVox Short Nonfiction Collection (SNF) that says that something can not be read more than once. Indeed, there are many duplicates in the Librivox catalog. However, I personally think that with all the useful, interesting, well-written Public Domain material out there that hasn't yet been recorded, I'd try to find something new to add to the LibriVox catalog.

This brings us to Karin Stephen's The Misuse of Mind. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6336. This short book about Bergson's philosophy is not yet in the catalog---so far, so good. But is it a good fit for the SNF? Here, you need to ask "How long would it take me to read it?" As a reader, it's good to know how fast (or slow) you read. Based on your seagull read for this volume, your reading speed is about 170 words per minute.

Karin Stephen's Misuse of Mind contains (per Word Count in Open Office) 23,255 words. Divided by 170 wpm, it would take you over 2 hours to read the entire book, so in its entirety, it's too long for the SNF. The SNF tries to stick to works running 60 minutes or less. It would be an excellent first solo for you to read for LibriVox! (You can, of course, pick a section of the book to read for the SNF.) If you were to do this book as a solo, then your questions about breaking up the preface and chapters into separate files answers itself; yes you would make them separate files.

Are there any PD short selections from Bergson that aren't yet in the LibriVox catalog that would fit in the SNF? Here is where you can do a little sleuthing, starting with a bibliography of Bergson's works: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/bergson/. Then, check out archive.org to look over the PD material.

For example, at archive.org I found a collection of Bergson's 1911 British lectures, published in 1920, which, to me, looked interesting.https://archive.org/details/mindenergylectu00carrgoog/page/n20/mode/2up. The translator says in the preface: "This volume of Lectures and Essays is an English edition of L'Energie spirituelle. It is not simply an approved and authorized translation, for M. Bergson has gone carefully with me into details of meaning and expression in order to give it the same authority as the original French." One of these lectures might be a fit for the SNF.

Sleuthing in the vastness of the Public Domain is, for me, as I think it is for a lot of readers, a big part of the fun of Librivox!
