Short Story Collection 096 by Various ( - 0).

This collection is for any short story in the English Language in the public domain, preferably less than 60 minutes. You are welcome to contribute as many as you wish, and there is no need to "sign-up" before recording as long as the work is clearly in the public domain.

Please ask here if the story was published after 1925 or if you are unsure for any other reason about its public domain status. Note that translations attract their own new copyright and must also have been published before 1925.

Multiple versions are always welcome, so you can record a story that has been recorded before. (If the same stories are submitted twice in the same collection, we will carry the second version over to the next collection) .

You may prefer to submit your recording to one of the other more specialized short story collections. Please note that this collection is intended for an adult audience ( )
  • There is no need to pre-claim
New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

You may select any Public Domain text. If you are uncertain as to copyright status, please ask.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello! I would like to lend a hand (or a voice) but I'm not really sure how to do that. This is my first time on this website and I could use a helping hand, if you wouldn't mind :D

Hi and welcome to Librivox!
There are a few things to do before you get started.
You will need to complete a one minute test - this is to check your specs are up to Librivox standards, and if not, you'll be given hints on how to remedy that. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test
Please post your test in the Listeners Wanted forum (see the dropdown at the bottom of the page) for the speediest response. Waiting for the OK may seem tedious, but can save time in the long run.
You will then be free to claim any sections you choose. The best places to look are “Readers Wanted” books, short works or plays. Many readers start with the weekly poetry in short works.
Please note that in these collections (there are several... non-fiction, children’s, sc-fi, horror) the reader finds their own public domain text and although you are welcome to do that, it might be easier to claim a section in a more formal project until you find your way around.

Readers find their own Public Domain texts... the best places to look are project Gutenberg or Hathi Trust.
