Yucky & slimy, but squeaky!![]()
"A Tropical Horror" by William Hope Hodgson:
https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor049_tropicalhorror_hodgson_ljb_128kb.mp3
Text source: Grand Magazine, June 1905, p.844
https://nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/sffaudio-usa/usa-pdfs/ATropicalHorrorByWilliamHopeHodgsonTheGrandMagazineJune1905.pdf
Duration 41:14
A few notes:
: 1- At about 7:17...
I say, "Once inside, I am safe"; the text says, "Once inside and I am safe."
I know this is the pdf from the magazine, but every other text source I have checked omits the word "and," which makes more sense.
: 2- At about 25:30...
I say, "...then crane my neck out and look up"; the text says, "...then crane my head out and look up."
I noticed this error in the final editing; it doesn't change the meaning, and I'm lazy, so I left it as is.
: 3- At about 34:30...
I say, "...the harsh, raspy sound becomes muffled"; the text says, "...the harsh, raspy noise becomes muffled."
Again, I noticed this error in the final editing; it doesn't change the meaning, and I'm lazy, so I left it as is.
: 4- This being a nautical story, there are nautical terms scattered throughout. I did my best with the pronunciations, but....

Thanks Louise! Whew, vividly gruesome
No worries on the slightly changed words - I'm not doing word perfect PL so wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't flagged them! As you say, doesn't change the meaning at all.
I wouldn't claim to be a nautical expert but all the nautical terms sounded how I would have expected them to![]()

I tried to edit it, but I ran into issues. I read on the forums that were editors, so, if you can, please edit it or tell me of an app or something, aside from Audacity because it doesn't work on Chromebook, that I can edit it on. Thanks.
Hi Isabella!Rapunzelina wrote: ↑January 14th, 2021, 10:35 amThank you, Isabella! Welcome here!
I'll check it out and let you know about editing. In the meantime, have a look around the "Need Help" forums for suggestions on your Chrome book. There's a search box near the top of the forum, so you can search for Chromebook, or similar terms.
Did you use an online text source that you could post a link to, please? Thanks!
I suppose my actual name, Stacy Dugan-Wilcox, the one I use to ID myself in the actual recordings, would be best. Thanks for checking!Rapunzelina wrote: ↑January 14th, 2021, 11:56 amThank you! I noticed that you signed your previous post with Stacy Dugan-Wilcox. Would you like this name entered as your Catalogue name, or are you fine with sdwilcox? The Catalogue name is usually the one we use when/if we say "Read by (your name)" in the recording, and would also appear in your Reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/15332
