Cool! If you haven't recorded before, please consider doing the 1-minute test to catch issues that might be difficult to fix later on, like sound quality (volume, noise, etc) and tech specs. Thanks!

Rapunzelina and Alixsquish, thank you both again.

I rerecorded and reuploaded. I have disabled the feature (Edit-Preferences-Sound Activated Recording). After some more tests, it is clear that the feature does not capture all the sound captured with regular recording. Even a split second makes a difference. (I didn't version the work so the original raw files are no longer there. The feature I disabled works pretty well but not perfectly and timing/volume of speech affects outcome.)

Rapunzelina and Alixsquish, I was able to listen to my other recordings that might have been affected by the sound-activated recording. Those recordings have much more integrity than the one I redid. Optimistic about them but ready to redo if ever. Thanks for your help to get closure on my submissions!

Rapunzelina and Alixsquish, I reuploaded The Ghost of the Count where I patched a few things and redid some pauses. The new time is 18:02. (There are two reasons to never use the sound-activated recording: missing split-second sounds and lack of control over pause lengths.) Many thanks!!

Good day;
Title — Don't Think About It
Author — William W. Stuart
Length — 23:05
Reader credit — lightwhisper

Text available at:
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60935

Audio available at:
https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor048_dontthinkaboutit_stuart_lw_128kb.mp3

Notes: This short story seems to be written in the style of a children's story, however, it is listed on Gutenberg as belonging to "Horror tales". If you believe this needs to be moved to another project, please let me know!
Thanks lightwhisper - definitely belongs here, that was very creepy!! And well and clearly read too, thank you.

Only one PL note - the disclaimer at the start should have the title and the author at the beginning of the 'this is a librivox recording...' as well as after. So full intro should be:
"[Story title] by [Author name]. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [adding if you wish: location / date]"
Say:
"[Story title] by [Author name]."

If you could add that in to the beginning, re-upload, and post here once you're done, that would be great!

Thanks lightwhisper and no need for apologies!

This version is PL ok but I notice that you've given it a version number in the filename - Rapunzelina, I don't know if that means it needs re-uploading or if it's something that can be changed this end? The PL ok version isn't the one in the magic window at the mo.

Hello there,
Title: The Story of a Disappearance and an Appearance
Author: M.R. James
https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor048_dissappearence_james_vr_128kb.mp3
Source: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/20387/20387-h/20387-h.htm#Page_107
Duration: 24:37
Thanks Zadijyne - I've not read this M R James before, thanks for posting!

This is PL ok - something to keep an eye out for next time, there's some variation in quality of the capture of your voice - sometimes it goes quite tinny. For an example take a listen to the period between 8.55 and 9.05. Sounds like one take so perhaps you're turning away from the mic maybe?

Good catch! I hadn't noticed when I updated the status on the magic window. I will enter the new link in the MW, and fix the filename at cataloguing.

Hello lightwhisper, unfortunately we cannot include a computer-generated recording in the collection. Is there a reason why you are using a computer-generated voice instead of your own?

Firstly - apologies to lightwhisper for not picking up the automation issue in PL and letting you complete an edit before raising this. My mistake!

Secondly - thanks everyone for your patience while I work through these - I hope you've all had a good holiday season.

Finally for today...

Hi, Rapunzelina:

Here's a story by George Macdonald that isn't in the catalogue yet, Uncle Cornelius His Story:

https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor048_unclecornelius_macdoald_ae_128kb.mp3.mp3

Cheers,

Anne
Thank you Anne! I enjoyed this a lot.
Have marked it as PL notes for a couple of minor things

23.34 - A missing 'I' in one sentence - 'Medical man, returned' instead of 'Medical man, I returned'
54.57 - little stumble on 'housekeeping book'

I did notice a few instances of background noise - perhaps of a page turning? If you're making the above edits and are able it might be worth looking at around the following points in the recording too:
1:13
10:30
16:09
16:20
21:47

Thank you!

I'm still getting my head around all the ins-and-outs of the mythical land of Public Domain - to my understanding, Lovecraft's The Unnamable should now be fair game (originally published in 1925, and Lovecraft died in 1937), but I wanted to check in before attempting to record it.

Archive has a scan of the July 1925 issue of Weird Tales where the story was first published - would this be an acceptable source?

Copyright page: https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV06N01192507/page/n1/mode/2up
Direct link to story: https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV06N01192507/page/n77/mode/2up

It also appears on Wikisource, but I know we do our best to avoid them when possible:

https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Unnamable

Let me know if either of these are useable - if so, I'll tackle it within the week. If not...well, that's fine too :)
