Hi,

Can I claim section 27, "How the Other Half Lives" ?

Thanks!

Edit: It's my first reading and I'd like for my Pseudonym "Delilah Bing" in the Librivox catalogue!

ColleenMc wrote: October 22nd, 2020, 9:46 am Heads up that the first two sections and the Grandmother section have some ugly racist (but reflecting the times) ideas and language, including an n-bomb in the first section. I don't feel comfortable saying that word under any circumstances, so I always check these old works in advance.

Colleen
Certainly understand those feelings.

Interestingly, I am working with an African-American soloist reading Up from Slavery, buy Booker T. Washington, and that word occurs several times. Neither Washington nor this reader had a problem with it. Context is everything, I guess.

But, it is good to note these things.
I should have done a better job of this, and will consider adding a note in the instructional post, or in the notes sections.

If you don't feel comfortable PLing any of these sections, let me know. Totally understand.

Thanks for the alert. :)

Nope I can PL them. I just avoid saying the word myself. Everyone has different lines.

May I read #4, Grandmother? It is a good reflection of a woman's life of respect, truth, love, and beauty in the midst of a time of chaos.

I appreciate your interest in reading for this project.
We do, however, request new readers to complete a one-minute test recording to check out their recording specifications and identify any other recording issues before they record an actual project.

I strongly suggest that you read the Newbie Guide to Recording https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording Under point 2 you will find all the information you need on completing that "Preliminary Recording."

I've put you in for this section, but please complete the test recording before undertaking this recording.
Let me know how things go.

Great!
I've left more detailed nots on that thread, but the two major adjustments are using the correct bit rate (128kb constant) and increasing the volume.
Easier work on these in a test recording rather than a long section. Anyway, when you've got those adjustments made, then you'll be set to start the longer recording for this project.
