Here are chapters 16 and 17. Sorry it took a bit longer than expected! :)

Chapter 16 (14:18)

Chapter 17 (14:17)

Feel free to tell me how to improve the recordings!

Cheers,

Well done! Both sections are PL OK!

Please see the note in teh comment before this one in reference to noise cleaning. While you don't need to change anything this time, the background noise level on section 16 was 37.6 which is a little high. A good goal is to aim for a noise level in the mid 20s.

Also, there were quite a few plosive noises on the mike. If you don't have a screen or pop filter, this can help a lot. You can also try sitting a little further back from the microphone or setting it at an angle from your mouth as you are speaking.

Thanks!

Colleen

Hi I-Tim!

I have not listened to the selection but I did run it through the Librivox Checker program and see that the volume is just 82.7 dB -- it has to be between 86 and 92, so you would need to run the amplify effect and raise the volume by at least 4 dB. You can do that and reupload the file now, or wait until later today when I've had a chance to listen to the file as well.

Hello Colleen!

Here is the amplified version of Section 3: A Hope Farm Sermon

Hopefully it is now ok :))

Thank you!
I-Tim

I went ahead and knocked this out and it is PL OK!

You don't need to change anything this time but 2 notes for future reference:

1) there were a couple of microphone noises especially in the first few minutes. I wasn't sure whether it was a bump on the table or other object near the microphone, or a plosive sound from sharp exhales near the mike. If it's the latter, if you don't already have a soft foam cover for your mike, or a pop screen, they are not expensive and a good investment. You can even make a pop screen from a wire hanger and some pantyhose.

2) Background noise level is a little high. If you have not done noise cleaning, it's pretty easy to do and a good habit for a first step after completing a recording and getting ready to edit. There are tutorials around the boards here or on video; here's one: https://youtu.be/VFSg9o37HMw

You are off to a good start, I like your voice and you read nice and clearly!

Colleen
Thank you Colleen, I'll keep those notes in mind for future reference! Have a good day! :D

Hello,
Thanks for your comments and tips!
Is there a way where i can see the background noise level of a recording on Audacity? I do have a screen on my mic so maybe I was talking a little too close...
Thanks again for the advice!

Do you have the Checker program? If you don’t already, check out the wiki for more info:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

Checker gives you a pass/fail/passed with warnings when you check your mp3 file with it. Pass and fail are for the settings and file name; warnings are when your volume falls outside the range required.

It doesn’t default to showing background noise levels , you have to change the preferences to get it to show that. Background noise isn’t what you are making, it’s the ambient noise around you...stuff you may not even consciously hear like the heat or air conditioner, the refrigerator humps etc. just the general hiss or fuzz you hear when you turn the volume to max on a part of the recording where you aren’t talking.

Oh as for the plosives, I have a screen and have my mike at an angle and I still get them too!

Colleen, I've had a problem with plosives for the past 50 years. I'm real good a creating them. Try moving your mic. to the side a bit and speaking past it instead of directly into it, that might help.

Hello! I'm surprised to see this hasn't been all claimed already. I'd be interested in taking Section 25 for now; maybe more after I finish.
