Ah, yes - I didn't think of trying to stay within the time limit. That would definitely make a difference on a project like this! 8-)

Downloading to spot check. If I don't post about it, assume it's PL OK. ;)

Hi :)

I was thinking of reading a lecture from 'The Chemical History of a Candle'.

The text is here: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14474

Will this be boring enough?

Maybe, or I might find it fascinating! 8-)

It has been recorded for LV before in its entirety: https://librivox.org/the-chemical-history-of-a-candle-by-michael-faraday/
But that doesn't mean you can't do it here!

Science is not boring just because it has numbers in it...

Anyway, I wanted to suggest the appendix of this lovely book:
https://archive.org/details/storyofcairo00laneiala

I mean the "Table for converting the Hijra Years into Anni Domini". Numbers. Lots of them. Pages and pages and pages...

(I'm not doing it myself. I have enough to do with the rest of the book. )
Cheers, Ava.

Annals:

51:24 - "August 14" - "August" is cut off at the beginning. It's up to you if you want to fix it. :)

ok, Tricia, as promised some time ago, here's my first venture into the Insomnia collection. I tried to make my voice very monotonous, which is difficult for someone as dramatically inclined as me. :? I hope I manage to put people to sleep or this will have backfired. The topic may help though.

I fear I will be dreaming of "Avery Collection. Purchase 1879" tonight. This sentence came up like a mantra after almost every catalogue entry. Don't know how often I said it but it must have been more than 80 times.

Title: "Items 1 to 100 from the Catalogue of the Collection of Pottery, Porcelaine and Faience from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Far East. China", by Garrett Chatfield Pier (1875-1943) / found two sources for these dates: http://www.worldcat.org/identities/lccn-no97004824/ and https://prabook.com/web/garrett_chatfield.pier/1084377. Nothing on wikipedia though, hope those are sufficient.

Text source: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Catalogue_of_the_Collection_of_Pottery_Porcelain_and_Faience (click on read online on the right side of the book cover)

https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/ins005_cataloguepottery_pier_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 43:18 min.

If ever this has success, I may be persuaded to continue with the next 100 items. It was actually relaxing to read in this way. And my little pet bunny was lying next to me and dozing off. :9:

I will be on vacation from Wednesday 27 March till Sunday 14 April
and unable to PL during that time. Thank you for your patience.

Here's my first Insomnia contribution. I'm really excited about this one— I mean, excited on a theoretical level as to its potential usefulness! Not excited on a vocal level. My model for this was HAL 9000 from 2001.

I feel that the text in itself conveys all the excitement that one could want; or at least that's what the author assures us, as he repeats at least a dozen times in this text that he thinks it is very interesting.

(Excerpts from) The Privy Purse Expences of King Henry the Eighth, from November MDXXIX, to December MDXXXII

Author: Nicholas Harris Nicolas (1799-1848)
Year: 1827
Etext: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/46009/46009-h/46009-h.htm
Length: 1:03:32

https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/ins005_theprivypurseexpencesofsirhenryviii_nicolas_128kb.mp3

This consists of the Preface, and then about 15% of the Introductory Remarks. The actual list of expenses is simply a table of numbers at the end; the Introductory Remarks describing them make up the vast majority of the book, not unlike Pale Fire. The main text is in modern English, but there's some quoted text that's in Elizabethan English, which I rendered in modern pronunciation to avoid waking anyone up with any jarring changes.
