Sue, Craig and Jo -

I found this essay by Aldous Huxley and was wondering if it could be included in this collection. It's the 5th chapter in a collection of essays by him that was published in 1923:

Title: Water Music
Author: Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)
Text URL: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/60866/60866-h/60866-h.htm
Duration: 8:01
MP3 URL: https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/watermusic_huxley_dwd_128kb.mp3

Part II of my contribution should come soon as I've just finished recording it in the most epic session of my LV "career" 8-) I should be able to trim it enough to fit it under the 74 minutes limit.
Want to hear some PREPARATION TIPS before you press "record"? Listen to THIS and THIS

Hi Lynnet, Thank you for this useful introduction to classical music! :) "As listeners we derive our highest æsthetic and intellectual satisfaction from the ability to follow, even anticipate, the composer's intention, now finding our expectations fulfilled, now being agreeably disappointed."

I like it when we have recordings "playing off each other" in a NSF Collection, as we have here with your "How to Listen to Music" and JachinandBoaz' "Water Music." I can imagine someone downloading Volume 075, thinking they were going to find out about Handel's Water Music and finding their expectations "agreeably disappointed."

Hi Daniel, Craig is dedicated proof listener (DPL), but I check the file names and specs; I notice that you missed the "snf075" on both your titles.

Your file names should have this format before you upload them: snf075_titleofwork_authorlastname_yourinitials_128kb.

Could you please fix the file names and upload the corrected files. Also, please then post the files here on the thread, so we can update the Magic Window (MW). Thanks! :)

Hi Dale, Thanks for this! :) I agree with you about the relevancy of Twain's analysis; there is sometimes a difference between perceived and statistical danger. That said, what got me out of bed rather quickly this morning was the shrill beep from an outdated battery in one of my many, mandated by local code, ceiling mounted, fire and carbon monoxide alarms. Oh wow, I thought, which one was that as I stumbled sleepily downstairs for the step ladder, which I ascended three times before I located the beeping alarm, and noted that I'd last visited that battery on December 10, 2016. If Twain were writing today, he'd probably come up with the statistics for fatalities caused by falling off step ladders while changing alarm batteries...
I think it must be a corollary of Murphy's Law that smoke detector batteries fail in the middle of the night. Our new house has 12 foot ceilings and my first thought on laying on the bed looking up at the smoke detector was 'Man, I hope those are hardwired!'
Jo, if they're hard-wired, you're going to need a back-up generator for hurricane season ...

Thanks for catching that, Sue! I re-uploaded both of them after I added snf075 to the file name. Here are the links for the file:
