msfry wrote: June 6th, 2020, 1:36 pm Thanks, Dan. The Night School is PL OK. Interesting story, nostalgic, dreamy, spooky, definitely qualifies. Reminds me of that heavy metal song I can't remember the name of at present. Children marching through school in unison, like in a factory. Teachers scolding. A British group. I'm thinking maybe they got the idea from this story.
I've never heard of the Unz Review, or James Hopper. I'll have to take a look through there for more stories.
Anyway, good find!
Hey Michele,
It's "The Wall" by Pink Floyd ... 40 years ago now!

I like it when they sing "We don't need no education" ... of course they do! That's a double negative.

PL Note on The Mother's Dream
1:41 His feet unshod, you say unsod

This poem would be a great comfort to any mother who lost a child.

YES! LOVE IT. In 5th grade, our history teacher stood at the head of the class one day with his hand in his pocket, waiting for the bell to ring. He said "I ain't got no money in my pocket. How much money do I have in my pocket?" Everyone said NONE. I being very shy, slowly raised my hand. "I don't know how much, but you DO HAVE MONEY IN YOUR POCKET!" I was the only one that got the double negative. And I've loved to grok what sentences really mean ever since.

I'm back!

...and just squeaking into this collection, after far too long, and while shuffling off the throes of LV-withdrawal:

"A Dream Within A Dream" by Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849)

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/dreamscollection2_dreamwithindream_poe_ljb_128kb.mp3

file length: 2:03

text source: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/10031/10031-h/10031-h.htm#section2p

I hope it's OK; this is my first recording with the new low-hi-tech setup after moving house.

Just wouldn't be right to have a collection on dreams without any Lovecraft! Here's my contribution:

Ex Oblivione, by H.P. Lovecraft
https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/dreamscollection2_exoblivione_lovecraft_ag_128kb.mp3
Length: 4:36
Text From: https://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/eo.aspx

As this is considered a prose poem, I wasn't sure which version of the Outro to go with - decided to err on the side of poetry. Happy to edit if need be.

Thanks!!

OOOOOHHHH. Awesome! Ex Oblivione is PL OK. Thank you, Andrew. Disclaimer is fine and you followed all the directions just perfect. As you stumble upon more stories or essays, feel free to submit them in their appropriate collections. The Coffee Break Collection changes themes with every collection, and the stories are limited to 15 minutes. All others can be up to an hour.

Hint: If you look in the upper right corner of any forum page you will see your username and a drop-down arrow. This will take you to your Control Panel, where you can do many things, including adding a signature to your posts, your name, website, or a pithy saying you might wish to put there.

In the meta data, please use this for the source text for the Lovecraft story.

Just a thought...
Do we ever do songs for these collections?
I can think of at least a few dreamy ones... :9:

Do you sing? Or are you just thinking of reciting the lyrics? In most cases, don't songs repeat the same lyrics over and over? I really don't know how interesting that would be. But, I'm open to seeing what you have in mind.
