Hi Larry,silverquill wrote: ↑November 12th, 2019, 2:21 pmHi!
Thanks for stopping in.
There are a couple of things we need to do first.
I have listened to your sample recording, and it does need some attention.
The background hum is much too loud to be acceptable. It is probably coming from your computer, in which case it can be minimized by getting the microphone further away, and on a different surface if they are together. You might also turn down your mic gain, since there is a bit of the plosive sounds on the "p" and "b" sounds and the volume is right at the upper range of our acceptable limit..
Even with this, I would run some noise reduction on the entire file, We have some great tutorials on how to do this, but ask if you need some pointers. I routinely do this on all of my files.
Also, for our recordings, you will need no more than ONE second of silence at the beginning and a full FIVE seconds at the end of the file. Your test recording has too much at the beginning and not enough at the end.
You can hear the noise in these silences, and you can see it in the wave form which should be close to a flat line for silences.
My advice is to make some corrections in your test recording and post it again to get further feedback and a final "OK" from one of our admins. I don't know who posted the comments there, but is a fairly new member who I don't think has a good grasp on things yet.
Then I need to know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog. Many of us use our real names because this is how we are credited for our work, but may choose any pseudonym or nickname that you wish. Then I can assign something to you. I will start you out with one section to get you started, if it goes well I can put you in for some more.
Let me know if you have any questions about this. We're always glad to help new people get off to a good start
Thank you for your detailed feedback. I've followed your advice and moved the microphone, cleaned up the background hum, turned down the mic and sorted out the 1 sec/5 sec gaps either end of the recording. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77143
Let me know if anything is still amiss. Also, I have no idea if the plosives are still distracting, I can't see the wood for the trees anymore!
Can I still be listed as Tiny Clanger in the catalogue? I'd rather not use my own name if that's possible.
Thanks again for all your help,
