Hello!

Please may I take 162, 163, 164, 165, 166, 167? I have also posted my 1 minute test here:viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77132

Thanks!
Hi!

Thanks for stopping in.
There are a couple of things we need to do first.

I have listened to your sample recording, and it does need some attention.
The background hum is much too loud to be acceptable. It is probably coming from your computer, in which case it can be minimized by getting the microphone further away, and on a different surface if they are together. You might also turn down your mic gain, since there is a bit of the plosive sounds on the "p" and "b" sounds and the volume is right at the upper range of our acceptable limit..

Even with this, I would run some noise reduction on the entire file, We have some great tutorials on how to do this, but ask if you need some pointers. I routinely do this on all of my files.

Also, for our recordings, you will need no more than ONE second of silence at the beginning and a full FIVE seconds at the end of the file. Your test recording has too much at the beginning and not enough at the end.

You can hear the noise in these silences, and you can see it in the wave form which should be close to a flat line for silences.

My advice is to make some corrections in your test recording and post it again to get further feedback and a final "OK" from one of our admins. I don't know who posted the comments there, but is a fairly new member who I don't think has a good grasp on things yet.

Then I need to know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog. Many of us use our real names because this is how we are credited for our work, but may choose any pseudonym or nickname that you wish. Then I can assign something to you. I will start you out with one section to get you started, if it goes well I can put you in for some more.

Let me know if you have any questions about this. We're always glad to help new people get off to a good start

~Larry
Hi Larry,

Thank you for your detailed feedback. I've followed your advice and moved the microphone, cleaned up the background hum, turned down the mic and sorted out the 1 sec/5 sec gaps either end of the recording. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=77143

Let me know if anything is still amiss. Also, I have no idea if the plosives are still distracting, I can't see the wood for the trees anymore!

Can I still be listed as Tiny Clanger in the catalogue? I'd rather not use my own name if that's possible.

Thanks again for all your help,
Holly

WE HAVE ORPHANS

With ample warning, a number of claims have expired with no response from the claimants.

These are now up for grabs.
I'd appreciated a two-week turn around on these so we can move closer to finishing the project.
These are short pieces to read, so shouldn't need two-months.
I'm back!
Thanks very much for the extensions...
I will complete mine & upload within a few days.
...LJB
I'm sorry, it won't work.
I need to bow out of this project.
Please take my sections back.
Thank you...LJB

Thank you very much for these. Very nice readings and you have a lovely reading voice, clear and pleasant to listen to.
You got all the necessary things correct also (right length intro/outro, etc etc) for which as PL I thank you muchly. Saves me a lot of effort.

But... you still have somewhat of an issue with the volume of your recording. I can't accept 36 as is, because it failed the volume in Checker, Now, I saw volume was commented on in your initial 1-minute test. 3 of your files are OK (but only just) but 36 is just below the absolute base minimum required threshold of 86 dB and actually, the volume of all your files is hovering around that bottom of the range.
But there's a very easy fix - something I do routinely. You need to amplify 36 by around 3-4 dB in Audacity, which would bring it up to 89-90 dB. (Keep an eye on the noise and see if you have to Noise Reduction after though, as Amplify increases that also). Let me know if you need help doing that. happy to help.

I've marked 37-39 as PL OK, but 36 needs amplifying.
Thank you very much, madame. All good now.

Thank you! Here you are sir as requested.

Hello!

I'm not dead, just delayed. Planning on recording the two that need it - in the meantime here is 172 The Serpent and the Man 2:13

https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/fablesofaesop_172_aesop_128kb.mp3
Thank you. It's nicely read, with clear voice and good phrasing.
Unfortunately it fails on 2 specs required:

- Volume is outside the Librivox requirements (it's too loud at almost 100dB). It needs reducing by around 9 dB. Quickly done in Audacity - choose Amplify and type in -9 (minus!) then re-export
- The end silence must be a full 5 secs. Yours is too short. As you are fixing it, can you please remove the noise in it as well? A tip: Ctrl-L in Audacity will turn it into silence immediately.

Happy to help further if required.

Here is chapter 47 of Fables of Aesop and others.
https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/fablesofaesop_047_aesop.mp3
It is 2:45 long.
Again, the silence at the end is too short.

Hello:
Here is my resubmission of part 51 of Fables of Aesop and others. THis one is 3 minutes and 11 seconds long. I had forgotten to put in the "end of section" part and I lengthened the space at the end. As I couldn't find the earlier comments for correction, I hope this one works.

Cannot pass any file when the end silence is not the required 5 secs!

Hope your throat stops giving you problems. Not nice, sore throats.
Thank you for 141, which is PL OK.
You have not left the full 5 secs at the end of 142 however.

Well, if Tricia says you're good to go, that's good enough for me!

I've given you all of the sections you requested, and added you to the catalog per your preference.
Just click on your name in the Magic Window to see your catalog page where you can track all of your work.

Looking forward to having your first recordings!

WELCOME TO LIBRIVOX.
