A little sexist for this day and age but I suppose acceptable in the 19C. Nevertheless a quite charming story.

I found a story at this website: https://americanliterature.com/

The author lived from 1644-1694

That would seem to cover everything, but the story was originally written in Japanese.

This comment is at the bottom of the page: Note Well: some of the arcane words that were used in the original English translation were replaced with their modern-day equivalents.

I also found it here: https://spellbinders.org/stories-2/page/2/

In Librivox there are two books read. One in 2006 in Japanese, seemingly a travelogue of a trip of the author, and one from 2015 in English and Japanese which is an explanation of some of his writings.

So far I haven't been able to find it anywhere else. What is your opinion?

Wayne
