Here's one from me:

Thurlow's Christmas Story, by John Kendrick Bangs (1862-1922)

It's more about a writer having insane (literally) writer's block while trying to write his usual Christmas story, than actual Christmas-y stuff, so if you think it would work better in the Horror/Ghost story collection and I should look for something more jolly, that's fine too!

Devorah, do you still need a narrator for the little Christmas play? If so, I'll be happy to claim it!

I'm fine with this! I've learned that, for whatever reason, ghost stories at Christmas time were the fashion in Victorian times. So let's go with it!

Greetings -

Section 6 was well read and has been marked PL OK. Interesting story. It is on my list to read more of it.

Michael, I enjoyed your pictures of the Bekonscot Model Village. I admire all the artistry that has been put into creating it.

Here's the Narrator part for "Ola". (length 6:04)
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/csw18_ola_narrator_128kb.mp3

I wasn't sure whether you wanted some of the directions read or not. Such asides as "laughingly" may not be needed if the actor actually laughs there. And when it says "Ola sings thus" or "Mother reads thus", you may not use those lines if that singing or reading actually happens. But I figured it would be best to just read everything, and then you can cut out whatever bits you don't need when you edit it all together.

Yes, that's just the right approach, thank you! I should be able to PL tomorrow, if not tonight.

Thanks Lomond. We used to go to Bekonskot regularly when our daughter was little. A wonderful place.

I came across the Round About Our Coal Fire pamphlet a few years ago as part of the research I did for the 'Father Christmas' article on Wikipedia. Most of the rest of it covers witches, ghosts, goblins etc which in those days were very closely associated with Christmas, but it's also notable for containing the very first published version of "Jack and the Beanstalk" (aka "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean"). I'm planning to start a Librivox reading of the whole pamphlet soon.

I've reassigned myself to the role of Alta in the play, in order to allow the talented Jasmin to read for Ola. Which means that the play is now fully cast! :D

I've also uploaded a short and sweet little snippet of my own and entered it into the MW. :)
