Hi Peter, Thank you for your contribution to Vol. 061. This is an interesting piece, sadly prescient in some ways. I was a little taken aback when I read the first sentences: "...English people are far more interested in American barbarism than they are in American civilization. When they sight Sandy Hook they look to their rifles and ammunition."lurcherlover wrote: ↑December 8th, 2018, 5:08 am https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf061_americaninvasion_pt_128kb.mp3

Peter
From what I could determine, this piece was originally published in 1887 (in the Court and Society Review), and was made part of a compilation of shorter prose specifically for Gutenberg.
Thanks for the story of American women in England from Wilde's point of view Peter.

Many thanks Craig. Yes, the essay is certainly a bit controversial and strange. I thought it an interesting take on a somewhat strange subject given Wilde's orientation, and I certainly did not wholly agree with it.
Probably not my best narration as I was having problems with a complicated new recorder and I did it under pressure and with a few other problems which has made me a bit tense. (My dog got savaged by another dog and is recovering after two vet visits, but I think she is OK now).

I thought you did a good job on the reading Lurchelover My niece's dog got mauled by another dog when she was a puppy. Some dogs can be vicious.

I have another Wilde essay - very short - duration 6:37 - but I expect you would rather leave it to the next collection? My reading is a bit more polished too, at least I think it is!
