An Autumn Invitation by Edward Capern (1819 - 1894).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/an-autumn-invitation-by-edward-capern/
In 1848 Capern secured appointment with the Post Office as a letter-carrier. His first route between Bideford and Appledore, later between Bideford and Westleigh. His job required him to make a return trip between the two towns with a wait for two hours, to allow time for people to reply to letters he had just delivered (there were no post-boxes at that time). He used this time for his writings. Capern became known as "the Rural Postman of Bideford" ( Wikipedia)

An Autumn Invitation by Edward Capern, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
COME out into the woodlands, love,
Before the trees are bare ;
The woodlark singeth on the hill
His sweetly mellow air.

A smile is seen on Autumn's cheek,
As one who hath a store ;
The bees are in the ivy-bloom,
Above the abbey door.

Come out, before the dark days come,
With blasts and heavy rains :
Come out, before the winter binds
The earth in icy chains.

The air is soft as eider-down ;
And brown October's eye
Is looking out to woo thee forth
Beneath its sapphire sky.

A few sweet flow'rets linger still,
Which Summer left behind ;
And still a lingering violet
Is swaying in the wind.

Once more, I pray thee, love, come out,
Where happy woodlarks sing,
And dream, while listening to their notes,
You hear the birds of Spring.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Here's my rendition. Autumn in the deep hot south is most welcome, just like spring. Makes you want to get out and do stuff.

Hi David, one small PL note on your reading:

At 0:15, the line is: "His sweetly mellow air." and you read "His sweet mellow air."

I don't think it changes the meaning or the meter much, so entirely up to you if you want to change it or not!
