Studies in Love and in Terror by Marie Belloc Lowndes (1868 - 1947).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalogue page for this project https://librivox.org/studies-in-love-and-in-terror-by-marie-belloc-lowndes/
This is a collection of five stories by Marie Belloc Lowndes. The stories are neither love stories nor ghost and horror stories but they each combine elements of both. In this way, they can be enjoyed by a large variety of readers and listeners. ( Carolin)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/26702
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    8. AFTER recording
      Need noise-cleaning?

      Save files as
      128 kbps MP3
      studies_##_lowndes_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. studies_01_lowndes_128kb.mp3)
    9. Example ID3 V2 tags

Just a note to whoever reads "Price of Admiralty": there are some words missing from the HTML version of the Gutenberg text. The paragraph that, at Gutenberg, starts "curious, almost uncanny sight ..." should say "The flag moving swiftly over the surface of the blue water was a curious, almost uncanny sight ...". This is how the paragraph appears in the Collected Works of Marie Belloc Lowndes at Google Books, and also in Gutenberg's Plain-Text version of the file.

I don't know if this is the only error.

P.S. I have reported the error to Gutenberg but I don't how long it takes them to fix reported errata.

... and now it doesn't matter, because they've responded to my errata report and added the missing text.

Just to say: I am now up and running with Wi-Fi and look forward to DPLing this project!
I will of course need someone to PL my sections; Carolin, I know you have much to do (for which I am so appreciative), so if you'd like I can post my narrations in "Listeners Wanted" just to take a little stress from you.
Of course, if you've time to PL, then *SMILE* ... Great!

Regardless ... *Wow* I am well pleased to discover that you REALLY find great projects to add to LV!

Section 1 ready for PL
https://librivox.org/uploads/carolin/studies_01_lowndes_128kb.mp3
Duration 21:53

At first I thought of giving the characters French accents, but I found I wasn't able to manage that to my satisfaction. (At least, not without turning the story into a comedy.) I hope it's not a problem if these French folk speak General American.

Section 1 is PL OK!

I was recently given this note, which I share with you.

Recordings usually have .5 to 1 second of space at the beginning; without it, it's a bit abrupt to the listener.
As all else is okay, I'd not take the time to correct this, now, but is something you may wish to consider for furture recordings. I look forward to hearing them!
Your voice is clear, smooth and always understandable, resulting in a very pleasant listening experience.

*Smile*
I thought you did well with the French pronunication throughout the phrasing of the story! Accents CAN (oh my how!) be a little tricky.
My Spanish accent now sounds as if Speedy Gonazeles has stepped into the scene. Yes, a comedic touch when there is *goodness!) no call for any is a concern for me, too.

Thank you for your contribution!

I'm a little puzzled by this comment. My recording of Section 1 has, according to Audacity, 0.54 seconds of silence at the beginning. If it sounds abrupt to you, it's not because I wasn't following the guidelines.

Otherwise, thanks for you kind words.
