Thanks. You have a pleasing voice to listen to. Your technical specs are fine but I would like you to fix two things, then upload another test; call it test 2 or something like that.
1. there is a lot of background noise in your recording, probably from machines that are producing a hum and your microphone is picking it up. Turn off the AC, fans, things like that before recording again please. Or perhaps find a quieter room? Anyway try making it quieter; not outside noise, but machines. (you could run noise reduction but we like to start with as noise free environment as possible so lets try that first) 60 cycle hums are all around us!

2. Your volume is just a bit low at 84.6 decibles and we aim at 89 (86 to 92 dB). Move a bit closer to the microphone or increase the gain going into the mic. Your voice is naturally soft and pleasant so perhaps just speaking up a bit will do it.

Anyway, be patient, you are almost there. Just make those adjustments, make another little test and upload it, putting the linkhere and I will check it out. :D Don't give up, please, we need you here.

Thanks for your help! I was in the quietest room in my house and I turned off my fan already so I went ahead with the noise reduction. Hope that helps! Hey if worse comes to worse maybe I can wrap my head in a towel or wear an oversized sweatshirt over my computer and myself. Also I spoke up a bit (I think I was trying to be too quiet when I recorded the first test) and I used checker and it said my decibles passed in this updated test. Thanks for your feedback again! Let me know how this test turned out! :D Also if you have any other notes for me I'm open to them! 🖖

Your volume is indeed perfect this time and your reading just gets better and better; much more interesting!!!. But the distracting hum/background noise has not been reduced at all, at least to my ears and analysis. Something electrical is running very near to your microphone, producing loud frequencies in the 0 - 400 Hz range probably the computer? Sadly PCs have very loud fans in them; I have to point the back of my computer away from my mic and hand a soundproofing blanket between to dampen that darned noise. Anyway, I used the ending 'silence' of your recording as the sample, did a moderate -10 dB reduction using Noise REduction and it sounded much better, in fact I would get an OK from me. Please try that. You probably don't need this, but here is a video about using Noise REduction in Audacity (It says Noise Removal but that ain't true!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw

Thanks. Unfortunately there was a prior claim to 3 that I just became aware of so Cinderella is not available. Sorry. It's a great story but sadly, not for you right now. What about another one? :(

Hello, can I claim #14? I go by "Voxandis".

Just some questions...

1. How do you pronounce "Riquet"? Is it "RICK-it"?

2. In the last paragraph it says, "However that may be, she straightway consented to be his bride......" Should it say "straightaway" instead of "straightway"?

3. This is my first recording after the 1 minute test. Is there a way to submit a couple paragraphs of this before recording the whole thing and finding out it's no good? Can I post a sample here for example?
:D I'm looking for feedback on my recordings, especially on storytelling and character voices (but any feedback is welcome, I'm here to learn!). My recent contributions:

Fairytale: Tufty Riquet

Play: The Dream, role of Wovelreid: Act II, III

Welcome Voxandis. I really like readers who ask lots of questions so keep it up. Yes you can claim #14. Did you get an OK on your 1 minute test? if so it means your technical set up is ok so you don't need to worry about that. If you just want to do a few paragraphs to get some feedback and feel more confident, by all means, just do that (call it test for Voxandis or someoting like that), upload it and post the link in this thread. I will give it a listen and let you know.

1. Riquet is pronounced rii KET, accent on the last syllable

2. Read the word as it is written, we try our best not to change any word because it doesn't sound 'right' to our modern ears. Keeps us honest!

3. See above. When you post, just say what you are doing so I know about it. If you don't post it in this thread I will never see it. :D

Thanks for answering my questions! I did get an OK for my 1 minute test but this is the real deal so it is definitely about confidence more than technical setup. Okay I'll see if I want to post a snippet here for feedback before doing the whole thing.

So it is not ree-KET, right? It is ri-KET? "ri" as in "ring"?

Excited to do my first short story!
