Hello,
I have a poem that I would like to read and post on this thread.
The title is " Ode to a Lighthouse", it does read like a poem even though Ode is in the title.
Will it be okay to post on this thread?

Yes, I think it will be fine, as long as it is safely in the public domain.

hello again,
I did just verify the publication date and I will paste what I found:

PUBLISHED: Boston: James R. Osgood & Co., 1876–79.

I have read on lv that if the publication date is before 1923 odds are good that the work is in the public domain. If that is true than the lighthouse poem is indeed pd material. If I am not correct, please let me know before I record? Thank you.

Death of the Seasons by S (Samuel) C. Mercer ( - 1914)

Mercer does not seem to be in the LV catalog, and searching for him was difficult.
I finally found this publication that gave a short biography of the poet and his year of death.

This is a nice poem. I wasn't able to find a pre-1923 publication online. What is the publication date of your Children's Encyclopedia? or maybe you can offer information of the poem being first published before 1923, just to be safe.

Cheers,

Hello, Chris! Thank you for your contribution. So in the text, the title is “He Giveth His Beloved Sleep”, though in the recording (and post) you titled it "He Giveth His Blessed Sleep". Is there a reason or was it accidental? Other than that puzzle, it's PL OK and a fine reading :D
