Coffee Break Collection 17 - Health and Fitness by various ( - 0).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/coffee-break-collection-17-health-and-fitness-by-various/

This is the seventeenth Coffee Break Collection, in which Librivox readers select English language public domain works of about 15 minutes or less in duration -- perfect to listen to during commutes, workouts or coffee breaks. The topic for this collection is health and fitness... views on these, including physical activity, nutrition and sport, have changed drastically over the years. Readers have chosen selections on subjects ranging from judo and walking to advice for the nutrition and education of children ( Lynne Thompson)
  • There is no need to pre-claim. Any story, essay or poem in the Public Domain that fits the criteria for this collection is acceptable.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

What a Young Woman Ought to Know by Dr. Mary Wood-Allen 1841-1908
Gutenberg Ebook 28458
Chapter 8 - Exercise
This is a fascinating woman. Married in 1863 with a college degree she decided to hyphenate her last name!

But overall this chapter is a head-shaker.

Ok, so I poked around a little bit a few days ago, not very seriously, for something to read for this collection. Being unsuccessful, I wasn't much disappointed either, since I have quite a lot to record at the moment. However, while preparing to record a cool article on Tesla's inventions for another collection, I found this incredible advertisement for Strongfortism, printed in the same magazine. It's such a perfect fit for this theme, and I just HAD to share it with the world.

Advertisement for Strongfortism, printed in Electrical Experimenter, March 1919
The author, I suppose, would be Lionel Strongfort, whose real name, I've learned, was Max Unger. (Apparently, he was pretty successful with this business.)
