You are right. It depends on the copyright status of the translation. I don't know if there are any from 1922 or earlier.
Typically Lovecraft's works are available for free online in French and Spanish, both on various websites and in PDF format, and the translator is usually not credited. Many of the translations are of very high quality. My concern is: Is an uncredited translation that is widely distributed for free online the same as being in the public domain? Or is it literally necessary to find a translation that was provably done prior to 1922 in order to qualify for inclusion in the LibriVox catalog?

Fatima
Hi Fatima,
You can talk about this in the "Need Help" forum. I am not a fan of all the minutiae of copyright. I am sure you will find someone in there that will be of more help!
Good luck,
Amy

Amy,

I'd like to record and submit "A Trip to Plutopia" by Emanuel Haldeman-Julius (pub. 1919). Here is the link to the book:

https://archive.org/details/triptoplutopia00hald

I don't see that this has ever been recorded before. Do I just need to record it and submit it to have it added to the MW?

Hi Jeff,
You don't need to pre-claim. Just submit your recording when it is ready. That will be a new one for the catalog.
It looks good.
Cheers!
Amy
