I recorded the orginal on audacity but edited it in movie studio platinum 15. I rendered the new version with 128 kbps -44100 Hz.
I selected [Stereo encoding - Mono]; There was no bit rate mode constant available that i could see but I rendered the new version
with 128 kbps - 44100 Hz. I re-recorded the Intro and outro direct on the movie studio, and I amplified the original recording
by 12 decibles (I think that was the sweet spot). The outro has a bit of noise in it and I synced audacity to movie studio and
used the noise cleaning and normalization effects, but it made my voice sound distorted so i just left the outro with a little noise.
If I need to adjust the opening or closing let me know, but I think the actually story is good. You have more experience though, so let me know if
you want me to change anything else with the story, or if I should re-record the intro or outro. Also, thank you for your feedback before. I was able to make it sound much better following that. :D

Here is my contribution:

https://librivox.org/uploads/bart/ghohor031_whitewolfhartzmountains_marryat_kc_128kb.mp3

Text Source - http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0606061h.html

- Author Name - Frederick Marryat
- Title of the Story - The White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains
- Duration of the File - 1:00:00

This was a class project of mine so I was under time constraints. You will notice at the beginning
of the recording I am a bit nasally, as I was sick. However, I start feeling better around twenty-
minutes in. I am sorry about that!

Thank You :-)

Hello! Welcome to Librivox!!

Your recording has the correct tech specs! It is just a little low in volume. For this recording you can use Amplification by about 7 dB, after which it might need some Noise Removal if the background noise also gets too amplified. It will also need Normalizing because it has DC offset. All these are options in Audacity. Let me know if you're using Audacity to record, and I can explain how to do it in more detail.

The reading itself is lovely! You'll just need to add the Librivox intro and outro as indicated in the first post (and when you're ready, upload your new file and post here again):

Start of recording (Intro)
"[Story title] by [Author name]. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name]"
Say:
"[Story title] by [Author name]."

End of recording (outro)
At the end of the section, say:
“End of [Story Title]"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording.

Hi.
This is my second effort to post this reply, as having finished my last one, it disappeared prior to posting to be replaced by
"General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Too many connections [1040]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists."

So post number 2 now follows

I am a newbie, and initially, casting round for something short to record, found a project that had originally been a solo one, but that was abandoned. The title was
Uncanny Tales by Various, Compiled by Cyril Arthur Pearson (1866 - 1921)

None of the authors of the stories was named, and I chose number 6, The Goth" as it showed as unallocated in the magic window. I posted to the project to say that I would happily take chapter 6 on, and immediately started recording, without awaiting a response.

That is definitely a newbie error. Part of the magic of the magic window is that it doesn't always show up-to-date info, and chapter 6 had been allocated days before.

The admin suggested that I post it here, to save it being a waste of effort.

I am a bit unhappy with the volume, as there are a couple of peaks that prevented amplification by more than 0.1db, so parts of it don't seem loud enough.

I would be grateful if you would advise on this.

Paddy

Hi Paddy! Sorry for your trouble with the forum sql errors; I've gotten that too a few times... Thank you for posting your recording, indeed it would be a pity if it couldn't be used, it's a very nicely read story! Now marked PL OK in the Magic Window.
When you can't amplify because of spikes, you can first run the Compressor effect on the recording. This will bring down the peaks so you can then amplify. I think Phil's video explains how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ3lOTDsN6c

Hello, Rafe! Welcome to this collection and congrats on your first Librivox recording! It's great

I have one optional edit to suggest, because of a missing word, here in bold: "There are good things in this world, are there not, and bad things?"
It's around 19:51 in the recording and on page 314 in the text.
I have marked the file PL OK in the Magic Window, but if you decide to make the edit, feel free to upload your edited file.

I have added you in the Reader database as Rafe Ball, but let me know if you'd like to be credited by a different name. This is your Reader page in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/reader/12629
It shows all projects you've been involved in, so it will gradually fill up, and under the "Reader section details" link, you can also keep track of your recordings in ongoing projects.

Thanks Rapunzelina, good catch! I have edited the corrected sentence in fairly smoothly I think (to my ear at least):

Thank you for adding me to the reader database, Rafe Ball is fine :-)
