Poetry Of 'The Double Dealer', 1922 by Various.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/poetry-of-the-double-dealer-january-december-1922-by-various/
117 poems from the January - December 1922 issues of New Orleans-based literary magazine, The Double Dealer, edited by Julius Weis Friend. Some are famous (John Gould Fletcher, Maxwell Bodenheim, Arthur Symons, Muna Lee, Martha Banning Thomas, Oscar Williams, Jean Toomer, et al), many are of them are Southerners of the era and died before 1970. Two later made their names as popular novelists. ( Matt Pierard)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 weeks of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after one month, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uva.x000360300;view=1up;seq=5
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'll MC.

Are you just planning on doing the poetry out of this magazine? I notice short stories and other prose in there as well.

If it's just the poetry, you'll probably want to use the poetry intro/outro for the sections rather than the full LV disclaimer.

Also, are you comfortable putting authors in the metadata for each section?

Finally - are you DPL yourself, or looking for one? :)

Thanks,
1. Just the poetry now; that's a lot of good writing to explore. I'm thinking this could be done by genre -- short stories, non-fiction, criticism, and this poetry comp.
2. I agree on the short-form intro/outro. FIXED.
3. I gathered the data from each issue, and also hunted up birth/death info on the net. I used to do this for a living so not a biggie.
4. I'll need a DPL, preferably a poetry fan.

I've added the January 1922 issue poets to the MW; do you want the birth/death dates up there or should I just post a list on the front page?

Also, I've got dibs on Symons' Trees in Paris, as well as the Hart Crane translation of LaForgue and Fletcher's 'San Antonio' (sorry, Nemo ;) )

Depends. Do you want the birth/death info to go into the ID3 title tags? If so, put 'em in the title. If not, put 'em in the notes field, I guess. That's as good a place as any - the readers can see in one glance if the poet is PD for them.

Moved. :)

Once we have some sections ready to PL, we could advertise for a DPL. I don't think it makes sense to post an ad until there's something to listen to. :)
