Do I read the Historical Note at the beginning of the chapter?
Also, Do I introduce the section and first read " Section Three Some Curious Customs"?
thank you for taking part here :D

No, you don't have to read the Historical note at the beginning. As you can see in the MW, I treat every short chapter as a separate section. Section 105, the historical note, is already claimed by Sara.

Please make sure you read the Full Disclaimer, as stated in Point 7 in the first post. Your sections are over 2 pages long, then we insert the long disclaimer.

Thank you

Sonia
Oh, I see. I missed that.

Can I also claim 115 and 117 just to round that out?

of course you can (although I don't know what you mean by "rounding out" :hmm: ) But I'll gladly sign you up. Notice in the short historical note you only need to speak the shortened disclaimer.

Please let me know if there's anything to be changed / improved :)

and your final, longer section. Woah, the Chinese punishements are quite heavy to swallow  Wouldn't want to have such a wooden board about my neck. But it was interesting to listen to. :)

I have some more notes here as well:

first, the technical bits again ;)

> again almost 2 seconds at the beginning

> volume amplified with 1 please

> 7 seconds at the end, cut down to 5 please

then there are a few stumble and repeats in this section. We usually cut those out in the editing phase, so it runs smoother. Some of these you can simply cut out without disturbing the text, but you may have to re-record that part of the sentence in some instances.

> at 2:14: (p. 181 bottom): “ a table upon which is a case full of small staves” – stumble and error

> at 2:36: (p. 182 top): “and as many small staves” – stumble and repeat

> at 4:19: (p. 182 bottom): “the battoon is every way less” – stumble and repeat

> at 4:49: (p. 183 top): “there is room only for the neck” – you say “there is no room, except for the neck”. While I agree, it means the same, we still should not change what the author wrote

> at 10:29: (p. 185 bottom): “immediate execution” - stumble and repeat

> at 12:36: (p. 186 bottom): “every part of the judicature” – stumble and repeat

Don't get a shock, it may look like a lot, but it's really only small changes and considering the length of the text, it's not that many errors. :) You did really well. And these few stumbles are ironed out quite fast.

Thank you

thank you for your section, Brianna. There were no textual errors this time

> but the volume is very low, barely over 82 dB. :( You need to amplify by at least 6 dB, but I fear then you will get a lot of clipping. I think you need to use the Compressor first here to get the peaks more level. :hmm:

Hello Sonia,

Thank you very much for your patience and feedback :) and I think the "binding of feet" was quite a strange habit, I admit, and I hope is no longer used ...
I made changes to the first 2 smaller sections: 26 & 45 as you mentioned
Kitty wrote:
> the silence at the end of a section should be standardized to 5 seconds. Yours are about 7 seconds, could you please cut those down a bit ?

> the volume is below our required minimum of 86 dB. Could you please amplify the two sections.

Section 26: amplify with 4
Section 45: amplify with 3
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume01_026_tappan_128kb.mp3 (2.35 KB 2:30)

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume01_045_tappan_128kb.mp3 (2.05 KB 2:11)

I hope they are ok now - kindly please let me know if I should make more changes.

I will now make changes to the remaining 2 longer sections and will let you know after the new upload is done

Hello, Sonia,

section 54 with corrections made!

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume01_054_tappan_128kb.mp3

I noticed that in front of some of my sections it is written : File Name ! What am I supposed to do?

Thank you,

Brianna

thank you Andreea and Brianna :) I will try to Spot PL today still but I have guests coming around, so I don't know how much time I will have.

Brianna: the "file name" is just a reminder for myself. Maybe you remember in the beginning I forgot to put "_128kb" in the filename example. All those files are wrongly named, and I need to remember to change the names before uploading to archive. You don't have to do anything.

Thanks

Sonia
