Hi. I uploaded Section 7 of My Strange Rescue. The length was 16 minutes 50 seconds. The link is:

This is my first time submitting something besides my one minute test. Did I do it right?

It is almost right... we need the leading zero on the file number, in projects with more than 9 sections. Don't worry about it... I can change it on the server; but if there are any edits needed after Proof Listening, please upload as _07_
Thank you, Carol, I enjoyed your reading.carolpelster wrote:Hi. I uploaded Section 7 of My Strange Rescue. The length was 16 minutes 50 seconds.
In addition to the missing zero, I only could note that some of the pauses were long enough for me to start checking for my headphones connection
There are no hard rules on the acceptable pause length, but I'd say no longer than 1.5 - 2 sec, unless between chapters or at section ends, or for special dramatic effects. If you intended the long pauses, fine, we can call it PL OK, but I think everyone would win if you cut them in half at 0:20, 1:45, 2:40, 3:30, 4:30, 11:05, 13:30, and 16:05.
Let me know what you decide, I'd be happy to spot-PL.
I'll say it again, I enjoyed your reading, thank you!

Hello, Mark Chulsky
Thanks for the good suggestion about getting rid of the pauses. Here is a revised version of section 7, now 15 minutes 56 seconds long, about 1 minute less than the original version:

In case you have any further suggestions for improving future readings, I would be happy to hear them.

Sorry that it took me so long to do my recording!
I am quite new to this and not yet accustomed.
So many other things got in my way...
I am not even sure if my recording suffices.
If not, please let me know!

Please note that the file name needs to be all lower case... don't worry, I can change it, but if you need to re-upload with edits, please watch that
Also, you get 2 months from the date of your claim to submit your file, before I get mean -- and you can usually ask for an extension if you need it. In this case, you were well within the time
Dear Orshiro, your recording is quite enjoyable, don't be shy about it.orschiro wrote:I am not even sure if my recording suffices.

The only notes are: please replace the zero with small "o" in the track name as Lynne pointed out and cut the 8-sec pause at 7:40.
Looking forward to hearing your voice again.

Dear karlkuzmich,
Thank you for your encouraging words!
I think this version addresses all your points:

Sorry, but now we have a long pause at 11:00 -- what's happened there? It was not there before.orschiro wrote:I think this version addresses all your points:
Also, the Sample Rate must be 44,100 Hz.

Good job, Carol, don't you agree the story became more dynamic and energetic? Sec.7 PL OKcarolpelster wrote:Hello, Mark Chulsky

I enjoyed listening to the story again, however usually it is expected that you only correct what the PL-er noted. If you do more, than the PL-er has to listen to the entire track again, not just spot-PL. It's a good practice to agree about the second round of PL upfront. Other PL-ers might balk at re-PLing of long tracks. But don't worry, I enjoyed listening to your performance again.

I am very sorry for this!karlkuzmich wrote:Sorry, but now we have a long pause at 11:00 -- what's happened there? It was not there before.orschiro wrote:I think this version addresses all your points:

I fixed this empty pause at minute 11 and adjusted the frequency but now my voice sounds a bit weird.
Anyway, if you think we can use it that way, I am fine with it!

Thank you. Sometimes what sounds "weird" to the reader sounds just fine to everyone elseorschiro wrote:I am very sorry for this!karlkuzmich wrote:Sorry, but now we have a long pause at 11:00 -- what's happened there? You shouldn't have touched "frequency," whatever it was. Your recording became 70 sec. longer, so you must have slowed it down, therefore it sounds weird
Please:
1. Delete this file, you don't need it.
2. Open your original version (the one with "0xley") in Audacity,
3. Cut out the pause,
4. Set the correct sampling rate:
--- a. At the left from the waveform find "Mono, 48,000 Hz".
--- b. Click the drop-down arrow,
--- c. Click "Set Rate" at the bottom, set it to 44,100.
5. Export as "mystrangerescue_06_oxley_128kb.mp3"
You should be all set. Good luck
