A Visit From Young Gloom by Ring Lardner (1885 - 1933).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/a-visit-from-young-gloom-by-ring-lardner/

Quote:
Ringgold Wilmer "Ring" Lardner was an American sports columnist and short story writer best known for his satirical writings about sports, marriage, and the theatre. He was a contemporary of Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf and F. Scott Fitzgerald, all of whom professed strong admiration for Lardner's writing. ( Wikipedia)

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

Set your recording software to:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
Quote:
A Visit From Young Gloom by Ring Lardner, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]

Then read the poem:

Quote:
There's been a young stranger at our house,
A baby whom nobody knew;
Who hated his brother, his father, his mother,
And made them aware of it, too.

He stayed with us nearly a fortnight
And carried a grouch all the while,
Nor promise nor present could make him look pleasant;
He hadn't the power to smile.

He cried when he couldn't have something;
He cried just as hard when he could;
Kind words by the earful but made him more tearful,
And scoldings did just as much good.

He stormed when his meals weren't ready,
And when they were ready, he screamed.
He went to bed growling, got up again howling
And quarreled and snarled as he dreamed.

He's gone, and the child we are fond of
Is back, just as nice as of old.
But I hope to be in some port European
The next time he has a bad cold.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
Quote:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: younggloom_lardner_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3
(e.g. younggloom_lardner_klh_128kb.mp3 )

[b]ID3 tags (Version 2.30):

Thank you, David. She's on the mend from the flu (she thinks). My daughter is visiting this afternoon and I just fed them apfelpfannkuchen so she should soon be much better. :)
