Hi Carolin -

Here is my part for Rosetta in the play based on Linny's (I think) feedback. I corrected the 3 errors and put more time between sentences that had narrators notes in between them. I also increased the time between some of the narrative as it was inconsistent. Please let me know how this recording is now.

Have a good evening -

Section 9: A Windy Story by Nora A. Smith (17:46)

https://librivox.org/uploads/carolin/wonderbook_09_various_128kb.mp3
The volume on section 9 is too high at 93.3dB. We aim for 89dB with an acceptable range or 86-92dB. Instead of a straight decrease of amplification you may want to give compression or leveling a try as it will not lower your low volume areas, e.g. ~4:30. I found to listen comfortably I had to adjust my volume a few times throughout the section.

Ending should be only: “End of Section 9", "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]" Please remove book and story title.

Ending silence needs to be 5 seconds. The 5 second rule ensures your reading isn’t cut off during playback.

Overall, great job!

Since you are new to Audacity here is a video on compression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fKYYj6HMZU
Leveling is Effect>Leveler and then play with the options. The only thing with the leveler is that it applies a bit of noise cleaning as well so you want to be careful you don't end up sounding over processed.

Hello Bryn,
The volume on your section is too low at 85.8dB. We aim for 89dB with an acceptable range of 86-92dB. Due to spikes you won't be able to do a straight amplification. Consider using compression. This will lower the spikes so you can then amplify ~4dB. Here is a video on compression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fKYYj6HMZU

You will also need to do a round of noise cleaning: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Instructional_Videos#Noise_Removal

These are both standard post production processing items. Most readers need to do volume manipulation and noise removal for all recordings.

Since you have to modify the file please trim the ending silence to 5 seconds. Thank you!

For consistency with other readers please redo your opening voice credit. It should be "Rosetta, read by [your name]".

Sounds like repline.

5:47 missing lines on p213 –
Rosetta (just too late to stop her). Princess! Princess!
Rosetta Take it now, Princess.

9:08 word change impacting meaning - Don’t you like it? Then we’ll leave off. Where can the prince and princess be? (Gets up.) I must go, but not without wishing them good-by.

The voice credit and the missing lines on page 213 were added but the correction for 9:08 (which is now at 9:47) was not made. Timing will be much easier now for the editor. Thank you.

Linny - regarding Section 40 - I just listened to the file again and at 9:47 I definitely can hear the "but" that you indicate was not done. Here is the same recording uploaded again from my saved files.

That's the one! And the optional "repine" correction is in this file as well. You must have just mixed up the files somehow. This is now PL OK!

Hi Carolin - I'm not totally sure if I need to post this one-minute test here, but I'm going to do it just in case. Here is the link to the thread I just created in the listeners and editors wanted page:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=66974

I am still interested in reading The King's Cat. I'll bet started as soon as I'm cleared with the one-minute test. I would like my name to be Lauren Richter

I would like to help with proof-listening. I can do any sections that still have yet to be claimed. Thank-you. I've read the FAQ but am unable to find any as of yet readings that need proof listening within this collection. Do I simply check back? Any advice would be most appreciated.

Carolin - I cannot help you with the play part that is available (wrong gender) however can I record the last story from the book? I think it is section 30.
