Lynnet -

Just add the poor orphans to my bucket please - I am in the middle of recording the other ones that are assigned to me. :)

Hi!

I just wanted to say that I already recorded
19 Hans in Luck
126 The Wonderful Tea-Kettle

and I am just working on the final editing. I will have them finished in the next day or two. I didn't realize that we were so close to the deadline.

Thanks!
TJ

TJ - I have Hans in Luck finished and ready to submit, why don't you work on the Tea Kettle which I have not gotten to yet, and Lynnet can assign that one back to you.

Generally, the reason items are orphaned is they exceed 2 months without being recorded or the assigned person does not let, in this case, Lynnet know, they are almost done.

Hi Lynda!

I have Hans In Luck finished. Just doing compression on it right now. I spent A LOT of time on it and would greatly appreciate it if I could submit it. I have been working on a lot of projects at the same time -- I just didn't notice that the deadline came up yesterday. I thought I would get a private message first before I was orphaned, as I have gotten on other projects. I appreciate your consideration.

Thanks!
TJ

Hi Lynnet,

Sorry to take so long. I recorded these chapters ages ago, but I had no idea how long it would take to edit. I'm still a beginner with Audacity. I can't imagine how people do whole books. I'm in awe. Probably there are some short cuts with Audacity that I am unfamiliar with, but I'll keep trying.

Here's 19 Hans in Luck:

I will be posting 126 The Wonderful Tea-Kettle today or tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience!

Thank you. It usually takes twice as long to edit as to record, even for the most experienced.

Lynda, could you submit your version to viewtopic.php?f=19&t=67593 ? That way, your effort won't be wasted. It'll mean changing the intro/outro and saving under a different file name. I'll also re-assign the Tea Kettle.

Hi Lynnet -

Sorry - I did not see your message prior to uploading my files! I turn off my e-mail while I am in Librivox so the tone of e-mail arriving does not get into my editing (or recordings). If you still want me to still upload Section 19 to the other book I am more than happy to that when I return this afternoon.

I was very frustrated this morning as TJ did not respect the fact that I had already recorded section 19 nor the compromise that I tried to come up with and then posted his recording before I could answer his post. It was assigned to me and he should have waited until he had a response from you first.

Thank you Lynda.
I understand your frustration. This is why we have the deadline/orphaning/reassigning. I'm trying to cut TJ some slack, being inexperienced. I can only use one version of the file but submitting the other to the Children's short works seems reasonable, as these stories are stand-alone tales. Currently your version has replaced TJ's but if you submit it to the other project, I can fix that.

Thanks for your patience, Lynnet. I have literally been working on these recordings for weeks. I even did voices (and sang in "Hans In Luck). What took so long was trying to edit out the breaths (and saliva sounds) between sentences and words. It sounds so much better to listen to in the end. I listen to a lot of audio books, and I don't like to listen to people breathing and drooling... ;). So I thought I would do my best not to torture my listeners. I also played around with the compressor and amplifier to get a more even sound. Not sure if I succeeded, but I'm still learning.

I had no idea, however, that my sections would be reassigned after being only a few days late. I have even been regularly checking the page here and saw that others hadn't turned in their sections yet, so I wasn't holding up the whole project. I spent the last two days finishing my sections for another project which I was holding up (so I try to be respectful of everyone's schedules).

Here is Section 126 The Wonderful Tea-Kettle:

I also recorded Section 103 The Magpie and Her Children, but since I saw that Lynda had already posted a version, I didn't finish editing it. Thanks Lynda for your great work!

Thank you.
It is up to the BC how strict they are with deadlines. Some only allow 1 month, while others let it slide. The best thing is to always ask for an extension if you are not going to post by the stated deadline.

The other section you recorded can be submitted to the children's short works viewtopic.php?f=19&t=67593 as it is a stand-alone tale.

For the singing, was the music posted in the text? We have to be very careful of the tune used, to make sure it is PD (Even something as ubiquitous as Happy Birthday is not PD)

It just says, "singing," and then gives the text. You can check it out. I posted it back to this topic. I'm sure it's fine. I composed my own tune. :)
