Hi Vicki,

PL OK!

Man, that 'THE HOUSE THAT JACK... I mean...BELL BUILT'...
Sitting alone in the fire-light's flare,
This is the house that Bell built.
A little odd, but let's see where it goes.
This is the girl with the golden hair,
That lived in the house that Bell built.
So far, so good.
This is the garden fresh and fair,
Where played the girl with the golden hair
Still normal.
These are the peaches sweet and rare,
That grew in the garden fresh and fair
Still normal.
This is the great and terrible bear,
That ate the peaches sweet and rare
Getting weird...
This is the prince with noble air,
Who killed the great and terrible bear
Bit more normal.
This is the wedding beyond compare,
In which the prince of noble air
Back to normal.
This is the house-maid, Biddy McNair,
With face so red and arms so bare,
Who took the poker without a care,
And slew the prince of noble air
What? No, seriously, what on Earth is that ending?

"Hi Vicki,

PL OK!"

Thanks for doing the PL. I really appreciate it.

As to your comments, they are hilarious! "Jack built ... oops ... bell built". Progressing thru the poem from odd to normal to weird to what the ...!? I was cracking up, as those were my sentiments exactly.

I thought it was a cute poem about a little girl but then I started reading & first the bear is killed ... hey, he was just hungry. Then the guy is killed, with no explanation. Whoa. Is this what kids liked back in the day? I don't think it would cut the mustard these days.

Or, how about this (parent to child), "if you don't behave, I'll read Harper's Young People to you..."

As a side note, this was published in 1880. As it so happens, today, I'm in Fairplay, CO, celebrating Burro Days. In town, they have a museum with 42 buildings, all from the mining days of the 1880's! They have 60,000 artifacts so I thought they should have some issues of Harper's Young People. If anyone out there has hard copies, I'm sure they'd love a donation.

A quick update from me: I'm going to be on holiday from tomorrow to the 26th, and as such, will not be able to do any PLing for that time period.

I FINALLY finished "Seeking His Fortune". I signed up for it awhile ago but then got busy with life. But I finally had time to read it. Then I did a proof listen & found 24 errors. Bummer. Got all those fixed, did another proof & found another 4 errors. Bummer again. It's funny how the mind works. E.g., the word was "good" but I said "great". So my mind knew the meaning but my mouth said a different word. I also said words in the wrong order where it ended up meaning the same thing, but wasn't right. So, now it's all fixed. All ready for the PL.

Thank you! All that work and you were still turned it in one day before the deadline. I've added it to the MW for PLing.

Hi Vicki,

You must have done a good job with your error fixing, as I didn't notice any obvious edits...

Oh, and it's PL OK.

The timing is funny. I had wanted to work on it for weeks & finally had time to do it. Only then did I realize it was 1 day before the deadline.
