Short Story Collection Vol 070 by Various ( - ).

Quote:
This collection is for any short story in the English Language in the public domain, preferably less than 60 minutes. You are welcome to contribute as many as you wish, and there is no need to "sign-up" before recording as long as the work is clearly in the public domain.

Please ask here if the story was published after 1922 or if you are unsure for any other reason about its public domain status. Note that translations attract their own new copyright and must also have been published before 1923.

Multiple versions are always welcome, so you can record a story that has been recorded before. (If the same stories are submitted twice in the same collection, we will carry the second version over to the next collection) .

You may prefer to submit your recording to one of the other more specialized short story collections. ( )

There is no need to state your intention to record a story.
Just choose a Public Domain short story (under 60 minutes) in English and when you have recorded it, post it here.
This collection will remain open until we have 20 submissions.
  • New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

  • Where do I find the text? You can select any public domain short story. A good place to start is http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Category:Bookshelf

  • If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

See if you think the sound is different? I'm using a new mic!

EDIT: The new mic is problematic with some hiss, which i think I got rid of in Audacity. I have to send it back as it's not right.

Hi, new reader here.

I've just completed my 1-minute test, and for my first shot at recording would like to try A Poor Man's Tale of a Patent by Charles Dickens. It's obviously in the public domain, but it's not on Gutenberg. If it's OK I'd propose to read from the text held at Dickens Journals Online - see pdf on this page: http://www.djo.org.uk/indexes/articles/a-poor-mans-tale-of-a-patent.html.

I'd like to be listed as 'MichaelMaggs' please (no space between first and last names).

Regards

Michael

Welcome!
There is usually no need to pre-claim for these collections. The Dickens story should be fine, but I would prefer you use this source: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/872/872-h/872-h.htm#page386
This is definitely Public Domain, but the djo may or may not be... if depends if they changed anything in the re-printing.
I have entered you in the catalog... that only needs to be done once, so you are set to record for any project now.

Many thanks. Don't know why I didn't find the Gutenberg copy. Will have a go in the next few days.

OK, here's my very first attempt at recording. I'd appreciate any constructive criticism you may have on both technical issues and narration style. Now's a good time for me to deal with any beginner errors!
