Coffee Break Collection 15 - World of Work by Various ( - ).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/coffee-break-collection-15-world-of-work-by-various/

This is the fifteenth collection of our "coffee break" series, involving public domain works that are between about 3 and 15 minutes in length. These are great for study breaks, commutes, workouts, or any time you'd like to hear a whole story and only have a few minutes to devote to listening. The theme for this collection is "The World of Work", where work or the workplace is significant. Fiction, non-fiction, essays, poetry... your choice. Please note: 'Street Musicians' and 'London Dock' contain language some listeners may find offensive. It is Librivox policy to maintain the original wording.( Lynne Thompson)
  • There is no need to pre-claim. Any story, essay or poem in the Public Domain that fits the criteria for this collection is acceptable.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi folks,

I'd love to contribute to this collection. I found a book on Project Gutenberg called "My Life and Work" by Henry Ford (really!).

The full text of the book can be found here: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7213

His chapters are rather long, but Chapter 2 is a bit of a synopsis, called "What I Learned About Business". I'd like to do a condensed version of this chapter. I'll read the entire chapter, and then cut it down to be no longer than 15 minutes (if needed). How's that sound???

P.S. I recently finished my MBA. The ideas Ford offers in this book are very radical, yet quite heart-felt. It's a very interesting viewpoint on business and the world of work. I'm diggin' it!

Bad news, I'm afraid. As you say, all the chapters are long (chapter 2 is over 4000 words, so would probably be twice as long as this project calls for) and Librivox frowns on the editing that you propose.
You could record the chapter and submit it to the non-fiction collection viewtopic.php?f=19&t=68693 or you could launch it as a solo project.

Hi Lynne,

I've got a good one picked out for the collection that I think you will like.

Just an FYI, the recording instructions are for CBC 14. :)

Ok, I understand, and thanks for pointing out the policy to me. I've requested the chapter over at the non fiction collection as suggested.

Bummer! But I'll keep looking for some shorter work readings.

Hi Lynne ... it's pesky me again :)

I was going to upload my selection but noticed the file naming is different than usual, where we usually use the title of the work and our initials.

Can you confirm what we want to use as the file name please?

Thanks!
Nemo

How's that?
It's only pesky if you wait until we have several submissions before pointing out these 'idiosyncrasies' (so much better than 'blunders' 8-) )
