LaurieB wrote: August 16th, 2022, 1:23 pm General question:
Why us Uncle Wiggily's Storybook being recorded now when there is already
a Librivox recording of it available online?
Just wondering. :?:
An excellent question Laurie. LibriVox allows and supports multiple versions of books and stories; we call it 'choice of voice'. I just liked these stories and the writing style and decided to give different people the chance to do them their way that's all. We have many versions of beloved classics like Jayne Eyre, Huckleberry Finn, Alice in Wonderland and the like. Some people do not wish to record anything that is already in our catalog and that is fine, but most of us (like me) have no problem launching happily into the 12th rendition of Pollyanna or Peter Pan. Hope this explains it a bit.

Thanks for the explanation, but how is it choice of voice if there is no option given to the browser
online? Or rather, if there is an option how does one go about finding it? If I click on Huckleberry,
in Gutenberg, for instance, will several Librivox versions pop up over the text? Or would choice
of voice only appear to me if I search for Huck in the Librivox catalog rather than at Gutenberg?

33, 34, 35 please!

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

I remember them, and I'm a long way from 96!

Gee, I don't know for sure. I always look at from the reader point of view. Please try doing a search for a popular book and see what pops up. And let us know!
EDIT: here is Huckleberry Finn https://librivox.org/search/?q=huckleberry%20fin&search_form=advanced It does not say who is the reader, just the version. (I did version 6)

Ooh, thanks for the macro tip, I'm borrowing that.
If I understand the term right, then the "Low rolloff for speech" that comes with Audacity is a high-pass filter, so that's what I tested first. Experimenting, I found that if I mirrored the curve onto the high end, starting around 8000KHz (low-pass filter?), then I hear far fewer mouth clicks in need of manual editing, and the ones I miss don't seem to stand out so much. If that's a bad thing to do in general, I'll see what else there is out there.

Thank you for your time, both as a listener and by sharing your experience!
