Uncle Wiggly's Storybook by Howard Garis - philc
Yes. I edit as I go along with "save project as" an aup file.
It's after I have exported it as an mp3 to my desktop and then go back to Audacity
that I find that the file has been compressed.

Ah! MP3 is a compression format and naturally it will need to be uncompressed to work with. I've never thought of it before since it opens so quickly on my PC. So, yep, it is indeed squished.
Huh?
I just tried it again with the Chicken pox story.
When I clicked on file I had a choice of "open" or "recent files."
When I clicked on it in "recent files" it was condensed.
When I clicked on it in "open" I was back at the original.

This exact question was asked in the "Help! I have an Audacity problem" thread (viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40238&start=1455). The answer there should apply to you. Another newbie technical question:
Once I have saved a project in Audacity and I opt to open it again, it opens in a compressed version.
Suppose I want to make changes to it, is there a way to decompress it so that I can edit?
Not that I want to change this one, but just asking.
Thanks.
Audacity opens the file zoomed out, so that the whole thing shows in the window. Yes, it does squish it all horizontally. :)
You can click the plus magnifying glass to zoom in, or go to View > Zoom to set the level.
You can also hit Ctrl-2 to go to "normal" view.

Nicely read! Very enjoyable listening. Quite the threat: mumps and toothache at the same timeLaurieB wrote: ↑August 13th, 2022, 12:09 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/unclewiggilysstorybook_19_garis_128kb.mp3

I've uploaded section 25!
Duration: 12m5s
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/unclewiggilysstorybook_25_garis_128kb.mp3
I should note that for credits, "redrun" is my preferred name.
I'd also like to take sections 26 and 27.
Below are notes to myself, or to anyone who finds it useful. I'm open to further constructive criticism, as I'm excited and looking to improve!
Mic position and plosives:
I tried positioning the mic below my mouth (instead of beside it) for this chapter, so I can turn my head. I found that while my Ps and Bs flew over without a problem, my hard Ts went straight down into it, and re-recording those sentences at a different angle sounded too different. Going to smooth it digitally instead, I saw the waves went all the way to the top and/or bottom of the track, which made those terribly troublesome Ts easy to spot. I used Effect -> Normalize on the peaks, together with the curves that directly attached to them. That seems to have hushed the blast of wind sound while leaving the consonant intact. I'll try another mic position next chapter, while I see about getting a pop filter.
On the reading side, I voice characters with enthusiasm, almost always louder than the surrounding prose, so it's time to practice regulating. It might also help in general if I slow down a little bit, as I didn't speak all that clearly and I had to re-record several sentences because of missing or added words.

Hi Seapeasy and a big welcome to LibriVox! Since this is your very first recording, I have assigned section 29 only to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_8Rdrx4COs]How to Upload your 1 minute test[/url]
I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums
We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in our Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here forum. And how would you like to be credited in our catalog? What name? most of us use our real name but it is up to you.
May I take sections 26 and 27?
I'll be out for a bit on this last weekend of April, but still checking in as I get the chance. I will try to follow up on Monday, with anything I can't do on the go.
