Hi

Please mark me down to read Chapter 14 : Milton

I'm interested in Chapter 1 as well but need a clarification on reading the older version of the poetry. It contains a word or phrase to the right of a line in italic explaining a word on the line. Reading these words in the middle of the poem would utterly destroy the rhythm and render it hard to follow. Much of the need disappears when reading. To wit : glade is not read differently but only spelled differently than glad and hence would not need explanation to the ear. I am inclined to render them as footnotes and omit them.

For example on page 9

Code: Select all

Stand well, mother, under rood the cross
Behold thy son with glade mood cheerful
Blithe mother mayst thou be
Son, how should I blithe stand
I see thy feet, I see thy hand
Nailed to the hard tree
Please clarify so I can decide if I want to tackle Chapter 1.

Thanks!

I'd love to have you read these, thanks! Yes, please do omit those. I'll repost here a note I included in the first post:
Please omit all footnotes and sidenotes that occur in the poetry. Footnotes that occur in the prose may be included.
(Although looking back at it, I see that perhaps I didn't put that note in as prominent a location as I thought I had. You are right that it would destroy the poetry!)

EDIT: Reading your post again, I see that you are still deciding on Chapter 1. I did add you in for it already, but if you decide against it, I can remove that, no problem.

Thanks for the clarification, I indeed had missed that comment about foot notes and side notes.

I'll go ahead and read chapter 1 as well so no need to change anything.

Thanks!

I'd like to claim Sections 6 and 7
all of
Chapter 5: Spenser and His Friends

Strangely, I have not been receiving Librivox notifications to my email for the last week or so. :(
I'm going to have to check on this, so your reply will be part of my trouble-shooting.

best,
Owlivia/Deborah
