This poem seems to be about the North-West Resistance, an uprising of Metis and First Nations against the Canadian government. (Louis) Riel led the rebels in the Resistance, and was hanged for it.alanmapstone wrote: ↑May 26th, 2022, 11:51 pm Section 34

It seems amazing today that any attempt by indigenous people to resist having their land taken away by outsiders was labelled a rebellion. It is like the so called Indian Mutiny in 1837 which was actually people in India trying to stop the British taking over even more of their country. We seemed to think we had some God given right to steal other people's landskristakz wrote: ↑May 27th, 2022, 8:11 pmThis poem seems to be about the North-West Resistance, an uprising of Metis and First Nations against the Canadian government. Can I also read 33 as it is about Louis Riel?

Unfortunately our government still seems to consider First Nations as "intruders" on "our" land, particularly when they try to protect it from our definition of progress.alanmapstone wrote: ↑May 27th, 2022, 10:01 pmIt seems amazing today that any attempt by indigenous people to resist having their land taken away by outsiders was labelled a rebellion. Thank you for both these readings, Laur. There are just a couple of things.Laur wrote: ↑May 26th, 2022, 11:50 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/canadaandotherpoems_09_young_128kb.mp3

Both poems are missing "This recording is in the public domain" at the end. Can you please add that? (It was added to the first post but perhaps you missed it)
#9 has a fair bit of background noise. Can you run noise cleaning on that one? 29 is perfect, so you might also consider what was different in the two recording setups, for future recordings.
EDIT: #51 is also missing the ending "This recording is in the public domain"

No worries. I know that was added late, so I expect some people missed it.Laur wrote: ↑May 28th, 2022, 7:21 pm Oh man, I'm embarrassed , let's try this again. I guess I was enjoying the poems so much I forgot a few important things.

#9 and 51 are PL OK now. Can you check 29 though? I don't think your update got into the upload.

Hummm.... I hear the ending correctly on this... (same file...same time)... Is file not being overwritten?

My fault, apparently. I reloaded the page, and now I see the correct version. Thank you.Laur wrote: ↑May 28th, 2022, 7:58 pm Hummm.... I hear the ending correctly on this... (same file...same time)... Is file not being overwritten?

Very strange, I've never seen that happen before.

No worries, Krista. Thanks for all you do! I was having problems with the uploader tonight on a different project (in which the file wouldn't load at all, and I had to record the whole thing over after many tries!) I thought, oh no, not again... Kind of scares me tho. We never did figure out what happened. Hope it's behind me. Again, thank you.kristakz wrote: ↑May 28th, 2022, 8:12 pmMy fault, apparently.
