Hi Emily and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_8Rdrx4COs]How to Upload your 1 minute test[/url]

(You may post the link to your test in this forum and I will see it much more quickly)

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums

Also, how do you wish to be credited in our catalog? What name? It can be anything.

Brilliant, thank you so very much! Delighted to be here 8-)

Do you know how to save/export the recording on a Mac? The 'EXPORT' option I cannot seem to find :?:

And regarding crediting, simply 'Emily' is fine, many thanks!!!

UPDATE: figured it out!

OK there are some things you need to fix then do another test:
1) Bit rate should be 128kbps constant - yours is now set to 86 kbps variable
2) We aim at 89 db volume, plus or minus 3 - your volume is too low at 78.9 decibels.

So please bring up your volume; the best way is to increase the gain going into the recorder but somehow get it louder. Set the export bit rate to 128kbps constant, then make another test, call it TEST 2, and put it into this thread and I'll see it right away. You are very close and your voice is nice!

Here you go! Regarding the bit rate, the option to select 128kbs specifically was not available- thus, let me know if I need to redo this.

Marie -
Both sections are PL OK, thank you.
Lots of Latin names and names of distant locales in those chapters. Whew!

A note - it isn't necessary to repeat the section number in the introduction after your name - so for example "Section two, 'The Self-Perpetuating Sponge'" could have just been read "The Self-Perpetuating Sponge" - I'll accept either way.

Thank you! Many things to learn; apologies, I didn't think about the section number - only took notice that it has to be in the recording...
A question: you wrote a red warning for volunteers outside the USA: " Thomas Henry died in 1967. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years." I'm in Italy. Does that mean that I shouldn't record in this and similar cases? Or maybe say/omit something in the default beginning/ending?
Thank you.
Not at all. This is public domain in the USA using our laws (see the note your mentioned). It may or may not be PD for anyone else depending on where you live. You are in Italy and their laws are up to you to decide whether this is OK. So it may be just fine for you to record, I don't know and have no idea how to check. My guess is that it is OK for you to record but can't say for sure. Sorry. I suggest posting a qestion in our "Need Help?" forum as to if this is PD in Italy.
Will do. Thank you for the advice.
I have sadly to ask you to remove me from the magic window and free up section 10 (Love life among spiders).
I posted a query on "Need Help"; Tricia replied that I would be breaking Italian copyright by making a recording/copy of a work by an author who died less than 70 years ago.
There. Enjoy your nice project.
Best wishes.
