Hi

I have reduced the overall volume:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/hauntedhomes_072_ingram_128kb.mp3

I couldn't believe how long they stayed there either, shocking!

I think the background noise may be my computer, I will have a little move around to see if I can fix it, Thanks

do you use a laptop ? If so, you may try only recording unplugged, on battery. That reduces the fan noise. Or maybe not put the microphone too near the fan.

If all else fails, Audacity (if you use that program) has a good noise-cleaning function, which is easy to use. I run it over all my own recordings as well to get a cleaner sound.

In any case, it's better now with less loud overall volume :) Can be marked PL ok. Thank you

It's a desktop all in one. I will have a look and try more things out on audacity

Thanks Sonia

thank you, Kerry, another creepy story :? You are reading it quite dramatically, I enjoyed the thrill.

Only one small note this time:

> at 7:41: "end quote" – you did not say a "quote" at the beginning of the letter (which starts at 1:24) so there is no point in making an end quote. I would opt for cutting this bit, it's easier than recording and inserting "quote". Marking quotes is optional, I personally never do it in my recordings. The choice is yours

Thanks

Sonia
Thank you for catching this, and for you suggestion. I will edit and resubmit shortly. I do appreciate you suggestions, and will likely avoid using "quotes" in the future. Kindest regards,

Hi

Can I have section 78 Willington Mill please? I have a couple of questions:

Page 269 at the end of the 1st paragraph it says " I am, &c " would I say " and see" ? Sorry if this is a silly question. Also,

Do you know what it means when "viz" is in the text? Page 272 , 10th line from the bottom of the page it reads " ..as if in pain, and the other, viz. the right hand, "

Thanks

ah ok, you couldn't know, but when you reupload a new version, then the old file will automatically get overwritten in the process ;) So usually, once it's PL ok, one should not reupload a new version, because it needs to be rechecked. Good thing you told me though, I quickly downloaded it again and indeed you managed: the sound is crisp-clear now. Did you do it with Audacity noise cleaning ? It's a really efficient tool, I can only recommend it. So once more, this section is PL ok. (I am assuming it's the old file, not a brandnew recording - could you confirm, just to put my mind at ease ?)

you can, thanks :) I'll reserve it for you.
Page 269 at the end of the 1st paragraph it says " I am, &c " would I say " and see" ? Sorry if this is a silly question.
a wise person once said, "there are no silly questions, though there may be silly answers". Always good to ask. :)

&c is an old way of writing "etc" in books. So it would be pronounced "et cetera" ("and so on", in Latin)
Do you know what it means when "viz" is in the text? Page 272 , 10th line from the bottom of the page it reads " ..as if in pain, and the other, viz. the right hand, "
it's also a Latin abbreviation, meaning "videlicet", so in English that would be "namely", or "that is to say". I think it's common to say "viz" simply, I have heard it on several occasions already, while I rarely hear people say the entire Latin word.

yes thank you, Maddie, this is another excellent narration. :) Milford Haven seems to be filled with people with the second sight  Must be something in the water....
