MayahRobinson wrote: November 30th, 2021, 1:30 pm Hello there. I would love to read Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome. I would want to read the Introduction, Cronus, and Theories As To The Origin of Man. I will record it later today. I would also love to be credited in the Catalog.

Thanks for considering.

Hi, Mayah!

Welcome to LibriVox! I'm so glad you're interested in this project, and look forward to your contribution!

I have three items for your attention:

Have you done the 1-Minute Test yet? I would highly recommend doing that before working on a full length recording. You should have a welcome email from LibriVox that has information for doing that. It's not an audition, but a way for the volunteers to help you make sure your system is set up the way recordings need to be done for LibriVox.

Do you want me to use "Mayah Robinson" (with the space) for your Catalog Reader Page?

And lastly, you are absolutely welcome to record those three sections of that source book. For this collection, they would each be recorded on separate files. You would be able to submit two of them on this Collection 13, and then the third would need to wait for Collection 14 (as each reader is limited to two selections per collection). (Looking again at the source book, the recording time might fit for you to read the Introduction and Cronos on the same file.)

Again, wecome! It's very nice to have you onboard.

Hello there.

Yes, you should put Mayah Robinson (with the spaces) as my name and I will for sure do the 1-minute test.

Here is your personal Reader Page: Mayah Robinson

When a section is assigned to your name, you'll see that it will list all the projects that you help with, both in-progress and complete. It also has a link to lists of all the sections assigned to you for either recording or prooflistening. It can be quite helpful.

This project is a little different from "normal" LibriVox group projects, because you don't request a particular section up front. You just submit your recording of your chosen story, along with the info about it (title, source link, author, length of the file, and uploaded file link), and then a section is filled in with your story and your name.

In other projects, you would ask something like, "I would like to do Section 10," then wait for the BC to acknowledge your request (always wait for them to do that and put your name on the section), and THEN you would record that section. So this project, and a couple others, like some poetry projects, is backward from the usual approach. :)

Also should I send my 1 minute (more like 30 seconds) test here as well?

That one goes on this board: Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here

:) I remember how nebulous everything looked to me when I first started in LibriVox. It all morphs into second nature as you go along.

Thank you for the patience in explaining it so clearly to me- and yes it is my first recording with Librivox and with the Audacity software! I have re-uploaded. Same name as before. You were spot on, The new duration is indeed 18:28. :)

https://librivox.org/uploader#:~:text=https%3A//librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/mlaw013_lacofrupees_josjac_am_128kb.mp3

Let me know if done right now. Happy to try again if not. Thanks, Ahana
Very nicely edited! A Lac of Rupees for a Bit of Advice is PL OK  Thank you so much for this fine story to start Collection 13. I hope to "see" you again in LibriVox. :)

There is one more thing to figure out that has nothing to do with the recording itself:

Your link for your upload is not quite how it needs to be. The URL for your file should have been this:

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/mlaw013_lacofrupees_josjac_am_128kb.mp3

I was able to fish out the "real" URL for the file, but a lot of BCs won't know how to do that.

When you upload a file, if you right click on the file name itself when it turns blue, it will give you the file's actual URL.

If you copy the URL of the uploading page from the browser bar, it will give you the link that only takes a person to the uploading page without your recording attached to it, and most BCs will ask you to reupload the file to get the link they nee

Have fun in LibriVox! There are many group projects you can look though to help with, and of course, if you'd like, you can still submit one more story to Collection 13 of Myths and Legends Around the World.

Aah- thats a cool tip. Thanks for clarifying. I will pick another story for your collection then and send you an update shortly of what I want to read . That way I can keep learning from you ..and see if I can fix the upload URL issue as well :)

The first is from the Koryak people in Siberia, from Myths and Legends of Alaska (https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/47146/pg47146-images.html#chap63)

Here is my recording:

The second is from China, from The Chinese Fairy Book (https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/the-chinese-fairy-book-1921 on page 161)

Hi, Mayah :)

I see that sjmarky is helping you over on the other board. The helpers over there are more knowledgeable about certain things than I am, so they're a great resource for you.

If the notifications from your post there are not working for you, and easy way to find your post would be to use the drop-down menu list for Quick Links up near the top left corner of LibriVox, and choose "Your Posts" for a feed of the projects and boards you have posted on. :)

Hi, Stephanie!! Welcome to you, too, to LibriVox! It's always nice to see new readers. :)

(And I love foxes.)

I have both of your stories loaded into the project, and they're queued for prooflistening tomorrow.

I need to get your Catalog Reader Page initiated before I can assign your sections to your work name, though.

The Reader Page is seen by the public when they're looking at things on an audiobook. What name do you want us to use on yours? Some of us use our real names, others use our forum working name, and others make up a nickname. Just let me know what you want yours to show, and I'll get that initiated for you.
