I would like to be listed as Kathy Kay.
I have trimmed the front, but will wait for further feedback before re-dropping the file. Also, I will include the time of the recording.

Hi Kathy,

Very nice job on your first recording  I agree with Larry and hope to hear more from you.

No problems with your reading whatsoever. The only issue I found was your leading and trailing silences, as previously noted.

Your opening silence should be between 0.5 and 1.0 seconds and your trailing silence should be 5.0 seconds. Please make those small changes and the upload the corrected file using the same file name. Do not forget to post a note here in the thread when you have done that.

Jim

Yes, I got through it by remembering the Goon Show entitled The Flea where there were no fleas, only small grasshoppers painted black :)

I would like to claim section 53 Seeking for a Wife.
Also, is it acceptable to change the pitch slightly when someone else is speaking for example for the part of a man lowering it two half steps - to differentiate it from the narrator? or up 1/2 step for the voice of the second woman?
I could send both the original pitch version and the one with the parts altered to see what you think?

I have uploaded two files for Section 53 Seeking for a Wife
The first has no alterations in pitch
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/frontierhumor_53_cox_128kb.mp3
7.35.7

The second has two pitch changes - one lowered 2 half steps for a man's voice, the second raised 1/2 step for a second woman.

I will be interested to see what you think.

Well, I'm not a big fan of the pitch shift technique. To me it sounds a bit artificial.
I think it is better to do any voice alterations naturally, or not do them at all. I usually do the latter, or only slight alteration since i'm not really good at voices.

But, I'll leave this entirely up to your personal preference, I've listened to the pitch shift version, and parts of the original. If you want the pitch version, then upload it again under the regular file name. Just let me know, and I will put it in and mark it PL OK. Really excellent reading!

I'll go ahead and mark the other one PL OK
Thanks for working on these.

ETA Did I miss your claim/request for this section?
It is important to claim a section and have it acknowledged before recording and uploading the file. In this case, we're okay, but it can really cause some confusion if this protocol isn't followed.

Hello,
Here is my first take at section 17: An Evening with Scientists. 03:19.
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/frontierhumor_17_cox_128kb.mp3

This is my very first stab at recording and editing, so I figured I'd run this by the team first for feedback before jumping into my other 2 sections- grow as you go, right? :P
Thank you for the help and critique!

I appreciate the feedback. Let's just let the original stand. I thought I claimed the section, but now I see it looks like I didn't wait for a response. For sure I will moving forward.

Hi Dana,

Welcome to LibriVox, and congratulations on your first section.

Let me just say that it was spot-on! The reading was excellent, no background noise was detected, and all technical requirements were met.

As your friendly neighborhood Dedicate Proof Listener (DPL), let me just share a couple pieces of advice. First, never be afraid to ask for help or advice: we all support each other here and the Book Coordinator (BC) or DPL, if one has volunteered for whatever project you are working on, are a good first stop. Second, be aware that LV can be a bit addictive. I always find at least five times as many projects as I can handle. Have fun with what you choose to record. You will find yourself reading books that you never would have read had it not been for LV.

I look forward to hearing more from you and can foresee a very successful LibriVox career ahead of you.

Thank you for your interest in this project.
I have assigned these sections to you.
Hi, I was hoping I could be removed as reader from sections 31-33, as I don't feel comfortable reading out their contents. Thank you,
