Here's to my first recording (barring the one-minute test recording) for LibriVox. Hype!

I'm glad to be a part of this, thanks for having me, silverquill.

Hi Joe! Magnificent recording. I felt as if the author of this letter were present speaking to me! Just two notes:
Remove "Read by ...."either in the beginning or the end of the recording
Add 5 seconds silence at end.

You don't need to change this (your recording is, to borrow a phrase, practically perfect in every way. However, you might want to slow down your reading in future just a tad. Hope this helps.

Hi Silverquill, I could not figure out how to check the dB of the recording. Will you advise. I have the Checker app downloaded but it keeps giving me an error message; something about it not being recognized as an MP3 file. Thanks!

I'll add just a couple of notes to the feedback Christine has given you. This is indeed a very good recording.
Silences: We do need .05 to 1.0 at the beginning. and about 5 sec at the end. I would suggest clipping out the big breath sound right at t beginning and I think the silence will be about right, as long as it is under 1 sec. The ending is less than two second. For this, just copy and pastes some of the silence so it sounds the same. When recording, just let it run for 7-8 seconds and trim it.

I would also recommend applying some noise reduction, using the ending silence as your noise sample. This recording is well within our limits, so this is just a suggestion for improvement. I routinely do this on all of my recordings, even though I have a fairly low noise level to begin with.

And, it is true that we should have a voice credit either at the beginning or the end, but not both. Personally just do it at the beginning and never do date or place. But, everyone has their own preference, of course.

And, as to pacing, I personally find it just fine. Again, this may be partly personal preference both on part of the reader and listener. My pace tends to be on the fast side, something I need to work on.

When you upload your corrected file, use exactly the same file name, post the link and new file length here again.
I think you are off to a great start! :)

Christine, good job on PL. I'll send you a PM about Checker.
This one comes in at 90.1 dB, well within our range.

Great job everyone!

Well, normally we like to have a prescribed test recording, but after sampling your demos, I think we can waive that. Just make sure you have all of our technical specifications down and all of the formatting.

I've added you to the LibriVox catalog and assigned you Section 11.
Just click on your name in the Magic Window to view your personal LibriVox page.
This is where you can track all of your LV projects, of which I hope there will be many.

All the best, and WELCOME TO LIBRIVOX

Oh, good grief; small motor skills (and lack of personal proofreading!!) betrayed me; the time SHOULD read 5:46.44

Section 7:
Just one thing to fix: try for .5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning
That's it!
Feedback: At first I thought you were a tad loud. However the sound is within the Librivox dB parameters and I felt like this editorial letter merited it.
Thank you,
Christine
