I have for long thought about reading books, but only now got around buying a mic and going ahead with it! I am thinking about reading mostly in Finnish, already got my eyes on "Kotkan lento Pohjoisnapaa kohti: Andréen Pohjoisnaparetkikunta 1897", 1930. But it's a big book, so I will not start with that.

Also would love to read some of my great grand fathers, Einari Merikallio's ( https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einari_Merikallio ), books. He died in 1961, but I'd assume our family to hold the copyrights and there to be some way for me to read them into public domain (?).

I was also very happily surprised to find that Einari had also done translation to one of Project Guthenbergs books, so I might actually start with that! https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/56793

Hello and welcome to LibriVox! :) Our servers are located in the US, so we can publish works that are public domain in the US. To ensure this, we need to verify the publication date of the edition you read from. We can use a scan where the title page shows a publication year of 1925 or earlier (Archive.org is a good place to look for these) and most texts from Gutenberg.org, who perform their own US copyright review. We can't give you legal advice about the situation you describe above. It's a matter of your personal compliance with the laws of your country, and our non-US contributors are expected to research these questions themselves.

Thanks for your reply and clear advice! I'll start with project Gutenberg books as they are more straightforward for now!

Welcome, Sini! 🌻

Yes, it`s not ever easy to find a book to read with all that copyright rules etc. I`m happy you have already found one and wish you to find a good DPL for your project. 🐋
Thanx for coming and have good time! ✨
