Hello THEZOID and welcome to Librivox!

It's great to have you here and see that you have already done your one-minute test. You'll need to post it on the Listener and Editors Wanted forum, though, so that experienced members can see it.

Once it is OK'd, you'll be good to go and find a project to record. Meanwhile, browse the forums and have fun.

Have a great experience in Librivox. Happy reading!

Thank you, I've passed the test - it just took a re-recording because of some inexplicable sound thingie - and am booked in a reading project that feels ideal. I enjoy reading aloud, though some peculiarities have popped up, in particular how I will read certain words wrong (I see them as different from as printed) and have to go back to the start.

How do people use this forum, socially?

Welcome the Zoid. There are a bunch of forums to browse and it is fun to read the comments from different people. We interact on our forums mainly. Occasionally there are Zoom chat sessions where we can see and talk with each other but t hey are as a member has the desire to schedule one. About saying the wrong word, we all do that but instead of starting again, I just say it right a few times, and continue recording. When editing that track i just snip out the wrong ones.
Here is a video I made about our forums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK9HAdLF-2k&t=30s it is not new but may give a better overview.

Is it customary and/or helpful to record subsections, like 5-10 minute tracks or do people tend to record the whole thing to later furtle through it?

I am procrastinating rather with my first book narration and I hope this isn't a problem. I didn't notice a deadline.

I always do them in pieces, it is nearly impossible for me to do an entire section in one go. I start a section by opening an Audacity track then going as far as I wish to go in it, then saving the file. when ready to continue, that track is opened and I pick up where I left off. Is that you question?

You describe subsection - 'multiple track' - recording, which is what I've been doing. Yes, this answers my question.

Actually it is on one track, not multiple tracks. Audacity now starts recording at the end so I have only one track.
