Here's my 1 minute test. I hope it is acceptable. I use Audacity on my Windows 10 Dell desktop computer and the Apogee USB Microphone.

Hi, my name is Stephen Gagin and I am no stranger to public speaking. I started out by acting in my High School plays (I am in my 60's so it was another lifetime ago) through my service in the US Navy, and I now do the Sunday readings at my church. I was first introduced to the classics through a publication you may have heard of: Classic Comics. They would publish such stories - The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo, Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc. - in comic book form. Graphic Novels in today's parlance. I am the voice talent for other fiction podcasts and I have written two novels: Bravo Two Sierra and Code Alpha; both available for the Kindle.
I hope I can learn more about our chosen artform for all of you and I greatly appreciated and comments or criticisms you can throw my way.

Hi Dutch and welcome to this great big bunch of nice peope who like to read aloud. I will check out your test in a minute and get back to y ou. (I remember those comics and loved them!)

I am back: Your will need to change some setting in your software:
1) We need 128 kbps constant bitrate, yours is 86 kbps variable
2) We need a volume of around 89 dB; your test volume is very low at 70.5 dB

Here is a video on setting tech specs in audacity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8JkCgKo3fU&t=72s bit rate is in there somewhere.
Volume is trickier. Increase the gain from your microphone and/or inside Audacity with that slider bar. Here is a video of downloading the Checker program for getting volume https://youtu.be/QKVOYsaDoRo And of course you can always amplify your file.

So, please fix these two things, make another test, call it TEST 2, upload and put the link in this thread where I will see it quickly and get back to you |ASAP. Welcome again and your voice is great!

Good morning Phil,
Thank you for your feedback. I am really looking forward to working with you all.
I followed your instructions to adjust my Audacity settings but I have run into a snag. I have Audacity Version 2.4.2. I am able to adjust the setting to the correct bits, but when I go to the EXPORT pull down - the Export as MP# is not highlighted and I cannot adjust those settings. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dutch

You must have some audio in the track for the MP3 option to show. That is probably what is happening

Also Audacity needs to know where LAME is, set under Edit, Preferences, Libraries.

Something went wrong Strphen, your file can't be found. It looks like it is an html file or something. Please try to upload the file again to LibriVox.

Phil,
How is this?
Stephen
Nope, it cannot be opened. The error message from Checker says "This file does not appear to be an MP3 file". and the actual file is an html.

I hope this one works

 Yes, that one is an MP3 and all of your technical specs are right on the button. You have the OK to record lots and lots. Note that you have a lot of hum or background noise in y our recording. Please use Noise Reduction on actual files you will record and edit for us. Have fun. Here is a video on your first claim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExS71WYtUIc
