Hello from the Philippines!

Hi everyone!

I'm Phelps from the Philippines. I discovered LV upon searching for possible voluntary works I can do online, if my time allows.

I was an engineering college instructor for a few years. Currently, I'm into freelancing with jobs that can be done online and at home given the current pandemic situation. I would want to start venturing into the field of voice over/narration, after I volunteered for a local children's book about climate change which you can listen to here (If link sharing is allowed here). I did a section of it using our Filipino language. The editor mentioned that most recording was good and can be used already so I began looking for stuffs related to the industry.

Somehow, I'm looking for some career here but I think that doing voluntary works to get tips/feedback, develop my skills, build my portfolio, share my work, create networks, and perhaps setup my own equipment would be a good path as I step in this industry. For now, I'll be more than happy to help on my spare time and if the silence of my environment allows, which is a bit tricky since our house is prone to noise inside and outside throughout the day. I did the recording of the children's book during night time.

I also don't have enough equipment now aside from recording using my phone's App recorder, a cardioid mic (the one I use for vlogging), some DIY pop filters and mic stand, then transferring the recordings to Audacity to do some basic editing such as noise reduction and compression. I would also like to improve my audio editing/engineering skills since I once joined a local lyrics-voice competition for a given back track. This is where I had my initial encounter with audio editing, after getting some online tips and tricks for vocal recordings. I did so directly with my laptop's jack but the sound with the cardioid mic is a bit awful, that's why I considered using the app recording afterwards.

This may be a long introduction but I'm looking forward to learn more. :D
