Hello lovelyVox,
My name is Aaron.
I live in Australia and am interested in reading books about politics, philosophy, history, and other such pretentious nonsense.
I have a few shorter pieces already in mind, I just need to figure out how to remove background hiss - one bad pantomime performance and the crowd will not let me forget it ;]
I love the work everyone has done here and cannot wait to get involved.

Welcome, Aaron!

Are you using Audacity? The Effect you'd want to use is Noise Reduction.

Here are a couple resources:
text instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
video, but with an older version of Audacity so the settings are different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw

My settings are as follows:
Noise reduction: 10-16
Sensitivity: 6
Frequency Smoothing: 6

Anyway, experiment with it, and be sure to do the 1-minute test. That's where such details are best ironed out. :)
