Can I record with my phone?
Do I have to make the one minute test?
Do I have to make a launch pad or can I send the recording without making a pad?
How do I choose books and do I read them from the device?

Lots of questions. Have you read your welcome email ? Maybe do that and then ask questions about things you don't understand - we put a lot of effort into the email to help get you started.
So to start - yes you need to do the "1 minute test" to get all your settings tweaked - it isn't an audition.
Yes you can use your phone for the test , and hopefully it will give a good result
All the rest we can worry about later - too much help just gets confusing.
