My name is Brian, and I am new to LibriVox as a volunteer, but I have been listening for awhile!
Until my son was born, I was a corporate trainer and a life coach that worked in three big areas: Being an effective leader, being an effective communicator, and being the most charismatic person you could be (both in business and in personal relationships). I have spent a lot of time using my voice and training other people how to use their voice for effect. I also used to speak competitively through Toastmasters and was involved in community theater.
When my son was born, I decided to slow down my coaching business so that I could be a full-time work-at-home Dad. But, as I often teach people that I worked with on relationships - once your kids no longer need you every hour of the day, its important to have at least a sideline. I have wanted to be a voice for cartoons since I was a kid in the 80s, and on a lark, I took a five-day challenge program on how to become a voice actor (from Crystal Wascher.) I had my first VO job through Audible's ACX.com by day three. That was in May. Since then I have completed ten audiobooks through ACX.
I have been told time and time again that Librivox is a great place to network with other voiceover actors, learn more about audio mastering, and do some good volunteer work in the process... all while getting a little exposure. I have been looking forward to this step of my journey for awhile now.
Some of the skills I can bring to the table for a project, other than voice, are:
- web design and development.
forum admin.
some basic audible mastering.
project management.
voice training.
helping people handle stage fright.
and time management help.
Other than that, I build and fly drones, I play a lot of table top role-playing games (usually as GM), and I published a novel a few years ago... which I am slowly turning into an audiobook for the ACX market when not working on other projects.
