How grand to be in such smart company!

You and I have something in common, a love of Librivox.

We both enjoy listening to great works of literature, off the grid, so to speak.

If we were to cross paths, we might spend the day enthusiastically discussing the joys of our fondest Librivox finds.

I have listened to nearly 100 works on Librivox, and am better for it.

My favorite Librivox recording of all time, is Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum, recorded by Alan Chant.

I've listened to it at least a dozen times, and it's new and exciting and soothing every time.

I'm eager to dip my toe in the exciting waters of contributing recordings. My favorite works are nautical adventure: White Jacket by Herman Mellville is somewhere near the top of my list. I don't see a recording of it on Librivox, so I might jump in there.

Cheers!

Lovely to have you joining us, Logan! That Melville sounds like an interesting choice. It's a bit of a beast, though -- mebbe 16 hours all told. I'd highly recommend dipping your toe in the shallow end first ... something short, could be a poem or single chapter. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65405 looks like it might be right up your alley to warm up with. :D

And, before that, of course -- the One Minute Test. Which is not an audition or anything, just making sure that all your tech settings are right before you set sail. I can 100% vouch from experience that it is miserable to record a whole section and then find it's unusable for some really ridiculous reason (mic not plugged in, gain set so high it sounds like I shouted the whole thing, ditto too quiet, evil background noise, etc.)

Most of all though, have fun here!

Oh bother ... and then I found https://librivox.org/white-jacket-or-the-world-in-a-man-of-war-by-herman-melville/ Well, great time to remind you of our Choice of Voice policy! It's a gift to listeners to offer them options in narrator. Though I'd understand completely if you wanted to go in a different direction and record something new.

Thank you for the wisdom Cori. You are so right, Peter Simple is practically shouting to me from the sea.

Courage, now... into the fray! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65405

I'll download White Jacket, thank you for finding it.

Cheers!
