Greetings and salutations fellow Librivox volunteers!

It's a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful community. I heard about this service from some very close friends in the local library system and just had to check it out. I am a secondary/post-secondary instructor who has been interested in recording for many years now, but I am completely open to volunteering to help in any way that I can.

I am looking forward to collaborating and getting to know each of you. Thanks for your time! :)

Respectfully,

Judge

In addition to recording, we also need folks to "proof listen" (PL) to recordings before we post them. Every section gets PL'd to ensure that it is intelligible (our standard level of PL); some small percentage of projects use higher standards to ensure that they are actually word perfect against the source document. People can volunteer to listen to a couple sections from different projects as they desire, or volunteer to be the "Dedicated Proof Listener" (DPL) for all the sections in a project. There is a forum labeled "Listeners Wanted" that you can check out if interested.

Good luck getting to know us all: there are thousands of us Librivoxers scattered around the world!

Welcome, Todd

Hi and welcome.
The best starting point is submitting a one minute test and the team there will guide you on getting your setup right. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test There is no need for an expensive mic... a decent USB mic can be bought for about $20 on Amazon. Of course, you can pay a lot more for a better one, but best to see if you enjoy recording before forking out :D

When you start, it is best to read a chapter or two of established projects, but once you are familiar with the site and the process, you can branch out to any Public Domain text that interests you.
Poetry is also a popular launch point (see the Short Works forum, dropdown menu at the bottom of the page).

Note: we have a lot of instructors on here 8-)
