Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to say hello. I found this site and was quite interested. I'm looking forward to getting started, but not quite sure of what to do first.
Hi
Hello Verne -- good to have you joining us!
If I might suggest a little light reading to begin with, the Newbie Guide to Recording covers off many of the basics for reading here, and links to more specialised topics too.
Then, pick your first recording! The Weekly Poetry is where a lot of people start, because it's fairly short and straightforward, and so you can make sure that all your technical matters are in line before launching into an hour-long chapter or an epic poem.
Alternatively, you could request a book chapter or essay or whatever, and then record a sample paragraph or two ... these are not auditions (we almost never audition here, and if your voice can be heard, that's good enough for us!) but it is good to make sure you know about any background hum or noises (such as from a fridge, fan or hungry cat) which you could quieten before recording. That sort of thing.
Or have a look round the forums and see what else is going on -- dip into some proof-listening or editing, have a look at the CD cover art, BitTorrent seeding ... whatever sounds like fun to you!

There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

I just joined a few days ago, too, and my hat is off to everyone here! I think this is a terrific site and I'm excited about the idea of participating. I uploaded my first poem yesterday (after hitting a snag with the process) and hope to contribute more and learn not to wince at the sound of my voice.

Two minutes later.... Nope, that's definitely not wince material. You sound great. More please!
Thank you! It makes me feel more comfortable to know that there are others who find it bearable. 8)earthcalling wrote:ooh, you have a horrible voice? ... (runs to find your poem...)
