I have travelled many a thousand kilometres on my bike- and as I ride I listen to your splendid recordings of books that I have known but never read. Now has come my turn to pay back the many happy hours listening to you have given me.

As a test- and for your comments- I shall post a reading of Poe's 'The Raven'. It does not as yet have the standard Librivox introduction- nor the 'end' - and when I find out where I must place it I shall invite your comments.

Welcome!

Go ahead and post it here, in this thread. I'll take a look/listen.

Upload it to:

Select the TESTS folder.

When it is done uploading, post the URL here. :)

Hello- That's just what I did. Hopefully you can hear it. It's a bit more dramatic than the Librivox recordings I have heard- and there is compression and reverb added. But those tools I often use when recording. I'm hoping they are not out of place in this setting.

I'm a big fan of Turgenev- and I would vey much welcome the opportunity to recite 'Bezhin meadow' and other tales from his hunters collection. When I am up to speed maybe even Malcolm Lowry- but that is a real challenge.

Uploads are a bit problematic at the moment. I did an upload earlier in the day to Short Story Collection Vol. 053. probably in error- but that upload was successful.

Oh - if you've uploaded to the short story collection, we can just use that as a test. What's the URL for that one?

In the meantime- until I make a successful upload to 'tests' I posted the reading on Vimeo a few months ago.

I still need a URL for one of your recordings. Otherwise it's hard to find on the servers. :)

I see from the upload instructions that I should have received the URL of the uploaded file. This hasn't happened even though I got the message upload complete. I'll try again now.

After you upload ,have you looked up the page a bit ? It should show
there is a blue
Under that a sentence about having trouble
then a sentence that says "you URL should appear here after uploading finishes"
If for some it doesn't then post and tell us what your files was called and which folder you used and we may be able to find it
Uless you post in the forum no one knows you have uploaded anything - you always need to post .

Glad you got it figured out! You'll need that URL whenever you upload a project section, so you can post it in the project thread.

Tech specs are OK, except that the file is in stereo. We use mono. Since the same sound comes out of both speakers, using Mono gives us better quality in the file for the file size (it doesn't have to encode both speakers). Are you using Audacity? To change all future recordings, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices. Under Recording, change Channels to "1 (Mono)". To change THIS file, go to Tracks / Stereo to Mono.

Volume is good - 92.1 dB, and we aim for 89. Try not to go much louder. :)

We discourage use of things like reverb, since it often muddles the file and makes it harder to understand. We're a pretty "plain vanilla" kind of site when it comes to sound effects.

Once you get the stereo/mono thing fixed, you'll be good to go!
